Creative Writing: Writing Between the Lines

Find a poem that you enjoy. Choose one line from the poem to be the first line of a new poem. Then choose a second line from the poem and begin a new poem.

Wedding Song (A reprise) [Taken from The Marriage of Riverwind and Goldmoon: DragonLance: Dragons of Autumn Twilight]

But you and I, through burning plains,
through darkness of the earth
affirm the world, it’s people,
the heavens that gave them birth,
the breath that passes between us,
this new home where we stand,
and all those things made larger by
the vows between woman and man.

through darkness of the earth
and the light of the sky
all that I am and feel
in present in my eye

through midnights dark call
and dawns early light
continue I through wrong
until I have found right

_________________________________________________

the breath that passes between us
as a testament of our love
a sign of our undying devotion

a promise of things to come
I give to you my heart
from the depths of all emotion

I surrender to you my soul
the very essence of my being
in total submission

Creative Writing Challenge.

If you want to play, let me know. I will give everyone a line. You write a poem using that line as your first line. E-mail me the results (s_snapes_beloved@hotmail.com). I will then reassemble the poem, with everyone else’s poems in between in orginal lines. [Okay…my orginal thought was written prior to picking out a poem…and this one seems a bit long…I’m guessing there aren’t 16 people out there that are going to want to play…So…if there are a couple lines you want to jot down something for…let me know. I’ll change them into a diffrent color as they are taken…so first come first serve.]

How Quiet Is The Midnight (Lord Soth’s Song) [DragonLance]

Set aside the buried light
of candle, torch, and rotting wood
And listen to the tune of night
caught in your rising blood

How quiet is the midnight, love
How warm the winds where ravens fly
Where all the changing moonlight, love
Pales in your fading eye

How loud your heart is calling love
How close the darkness at your breast
How hectic are the rivers, love,
Drawn through your dying wrist

And love, what heat your frail skin hides
as pure as salt, as sweet as death
and in the dark, the red moon rides
The foxfire of your breath.

I’m atrocious at poetry, but I’ll give it a go. I’d like the line “caught in your rising blood” from “How Quiet Is The Midnight (Lord Soth’s Song) [DragonLance]” if that suits you.

mine’s pretty short so I’ll put it in this note: Where all the changing moonlight, love Switching from dark to light I watch your face Holding hands we are still apart Although I feel you squeeze my hand We sit and are as silent as the sky And as changeable as the sand

I wish I could write poetry. I’m just no good at it.
