Against anti-semitism
Anti-Semitic Christians often malign Jews with the term “Christ-killers”. But is that insult deserved? Lets take a look at that: An examination of the New Testament reveals a few things: First, Christian doctrine makes it clear that the main mission of the Messiah was to be sacrificed for our sins. None of us are good enough to get into heaven on our own. We have all sinned, we all suck, we all fall short. If Jesus had not been sacrificed, then we would still be lost. So if you are looking for a “Christ-killer” then look in the mirror, we are all equally guilty Jews and Gentiles alike. Also, whoever actually killed Christ did us a favor since his death was necessary for our redemption. Without the crucifixion there could be no resurrection. Also the gospels indicate that Jesus was crucified by order of Pontius Pilate the Roman governor, the men who whipped him, nailed him to the cross, lifted it up and dropped it into the ground and later speared him in the side were gentile Caucasian roman soldiers. While the Jewish Sanhedrin voted to turn Him over to be crucified not all of them were in agreement, there were dissenters: Rabbi Nicodemus and Joseph of Arimethia. Jesus was popular with the common Jewish people. As Jesus was being executed by the Romans and mocked by the Jews He never called on God, his disciples or his followers in perpetuity to avenge him. He said “Father, forgive them. They don’t know what they are doing!” His attitude was not one of revenge, but forgiveness. So Christian gentiles who persecute the Jews are imbeciles who are ignorant of basic Christian doctrine. I timed the posting of this for the Eastern Orthodox celebration of Good Friday because the Orthodox Church was responsible for many pogroms, although the Catholic Church was also responsible for persecuting the Jews during the crusades as well as through the Spanish and Italian inquisitions and Protestants did it through the Ku-Klux-Klan and the Christian Identity Movement. The holocaust was not done by Christians although neither Catholics nor Protestants did enough to stop it. Hitler was motivated by Darwinian arguments rather than religious ones. True Christians follow the golden rule, to treat others the way they themselves would want to be treated. There is no justification for Christian anti-Semitism. Persecution of anyone goes against the teachings of Jesus and the Apostles. Hitler’s arguments were also stupid since Ashkenazic Jews look almost exactly like native Germans. Also, people who deny that the holocaust happened are morons. It is like denying that the American Revolution, the moon landings or the beheading of Marie Antoinette happened. The concentration camps are still standing as a tangible monument to the horrors involved and some of the victims of the holocaust are still alive and at this time there are still American, British and Russian soldiers (obviously retired) but still living who remember liberating those camps so it is ludicrous to deny that the holocaust is a fact of history. In conclusion Christian anti-Semitism is an oxymoron and the people who do it are morons.
Blame a Jew
There has been an increase in anti-semitic attitudes in various nations throughout Europe recently. So what else is new, when there is trouble with the economy the Jews always make convenient scapegoats. Why not blame the Jews for global warming, after all, God created the sun and it is the eleven to twenty-two year cycles of sunspot activity that causes warming and cooling trends on Earth and when God came to Earth to redeem us as the Messiah He came as a Jew, ergo Jews are to blame for global warming. What else can we blame on the Jews? If you hate the bible then blame the Jews because of the 66 books of the bible, 64 of them were written by Jews. If you grew up without suffering from polio then blame a Jew, both vaccines were formulated by Jews (Salk and Sabin). If you hate knowing about the theory of relativity, then blame a Jew (although Albert Einstein rejected Judaism in exchange for Spinoza’s beliefs he was ethnically Hebrew). Those pesky Jews have inflicted on our world such things as classical music (Felix Mendelssohn) and various forms of entertainment, e.g. music, cinema, humor etc: (The Marx Brothers, Barbara Streisand, Leonard Nimoy, William Shatner, Grace Lee Whitney, Helen Slater, Billy Crystal, Mel Brooks, etc.) and things like that. Those darn Jews go around filling our world with science and art and medical breakthroughs and laughter and other beneficial things. God told Abraham that his descendants would be a blessing to all of the families of the world so when we hurt the Jews then we are hurting ourselves. When simple-minded people (such as European Christians, the KKK, Neo-Nazis, skinheads, etc.) are besieged by economic or other problems they feel the need for someone to blame and Jews make convenient targets. And those who play the blame game conveniently ignore all of the good that the Hebrew people have done for our world. If there seems to be a disproportionate amount of Jewish people in the financial industry maybe it is because some of them believe what the bible says about tithing and they put that knowledge into practice and prosper. Instead of persecuting them why not make friends with Jewish people in high places and enjoy the blessing, after all, God promised Abraham that: “Those who bless you I will bless, Those who curse you I will curse.” If you want to have God on your side then be nice to Jewish people. And even if you are an atheist then you should at least appreciate the fact that Karl Marx, Isaac Asimov and Nat Hentoff are famous Hebrew thinkers who thought or think like you do.
Although I am pained by strife between Jews and Arabs persecution of Jews by Arabs cannot really be called anti-Semitism because Arabs are also Semites as they are descendants of Abraham. In that case it is a family dispute between cousins. I desire to see reconciliation and peace between Jews and Arabs, Hebrews and Arabians, Israelites and Ishmaelites.
Arabs, as descendants of Abraham have also blessed the world through such things as: Bellydancing, The One Thousand and One Arabian Nights, and celebrities such as Kasey Kasem, Paula Abdul, Jamie Farr, and others. Thus, Abraham’s seed HAVE been a blessing to humankind through both sons Ishmael and Isaac. Regarding Jews, Arabs, Gentiles and everyone else, we need less hate and more understanding and tolerance. Even if you don’t like someone at least tolerate them and let God deal with them if they are in the wrong in a certain area.
Incidentally I am not really a big fan of Barbara Streisand as I have strong disagreements with her on some moral and social issues but she is a beautiful and talented actress/singer and I do agree with the basic message of “Yentl” that Jewish girls and women should be educated in the Torah.
