A scientific analysis on the Virgin Birth
This entry is on the virgin birth. All true Christians believe in the Virgin Birth of Christ (Roman Catholic, Protestant, Eastern Orthodox, Coptic, Messianic Jew, etc.). Although I don’t know of direct evidence that proves that this actually happened in history the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead is supported by much evidence and that substantiates the virgin birth and the other miracles of the bible as do the other evidences including the fulfilled prophesies in the bible. This topic raises various issues that I will attempt to answer.
Why was it necessary?
Adam and Eve both sinned and contaminated all of their descendants with corruption. But the sinful nature was spread through descent and that is reckoned through our blood and we get our blood type from our paternal line (our fathers.) Because of that the Messiah who would sacrifice himself for our sins could not come through Adam’s bloodline and still be pure. Therefore the Christ had to come through a woman without the sperm of a man being involved.
How did God do it?
Only God knows how He accomplished the asexual conception of Christ but this is my scientific theory of how it was done. I believe that when the time came to fulfill the prophecies recorded in the scriptures of Judaism for the coming of the Messiah, God (Who had planned this from the time Adam and Eve had sinned) had chosen Mary, a descendant of David through his son Nathan, to be the mother of the Anointed One who would sacrifice Himself to redeem us from our corruption. Just as God took one of Adam’s ribs and created the body of Eve from it probably changing the chromosome in the DNA from XY to XX in the process God may have taken one of Mary’s uterine cells and changed the DNA from XX to XY and made the zygote which would be the body of Christ from it rather than from the sperm/egg union that zygotes are usually made from. Then part of God (the second part of the trinity) entered this unusual zygote and became Jesus Christ and developed as a normal fetus from that point. I also have the theory that when Mary went into labor her hymen was ruptured by the dilation, an event that had not happened to any other woman in the history of the human race. Most of the time the hymen is ruptured during the first intercourse when virginity is ended. While I agree with the Catholic Church on the virgin birth of Christ I don’t agree with those who teach the perpetual virginity of Mary, I believe that after Jesus was born and weaned Mary and Joseph did have normal marital relations and produced the brothers and sisters of Jesus mentioned in the gospels. It was necessary for her to be a virgin at Jesus’ conception for the purity of the messiah but it was not needed for her to remain a virgin and once Mary and Joseph were married to each other sex was sinless as it is in all other sex between a man and a woman who are married to each other.
More on genetics: Since Eve was made from Adam’s rib with the change in gender chromosome she probably looked a lot like him except for the difference in gender and Jesus probably looked a lot like Mary except masculine rather than feminine because of the identical DNA but with the change in gender determining chromosomes. Even in normal sexual reproduction parents and children can resemble each other, my father and paternal grandmother looked a lot alike near the end of her life.
More on Adam and Eve: Why did God make her from her husband’s rib and not some other part? I believe it was symbolic. She was not taken from his foot, women are not beneath men. She was not taken from his skull, women are not above men. She was not taken from his spine, women are not behind men. She was not taken from his sternum, women are not in front of men. She was not taken from his penis, women are not sex objects. She was taken from his rib, a wife’s place is beside her husband, by his side and close to his heart. Also Genesis 1:27 and 5:1,2 indicate that both Adam and Eve were made in the image and likeness of God. And Paul’s Epistle to the Galatians 3:28 indicates that men and women are equal in Christ (of equal status before God). When the Apostle Paul told wives to “submit” to their husbands the Greek word he used (hupotasami) actually means to show allegiance to or be supportive of but bible translators continue to insist on translating it as submit. There is no place in the bible that specifically says that women in general are to be submissive to men in general and there are two places in the word of God that indicate situations where males are to be obedient to females: one is the fifth commandment, boys are to obey and respect their mothers as well as their fathers. The other passage does not mention females specifically but does create the context for it. In his epistle to Titus Paul said that Christians are to be obedient to legitimate government authorities, and sometimes the state authority is a woman. Paul lived around a century after Cleopatra had been Queen (or Pharaoh?) of Egypt and having been a Rabbi he would have remembered Deborah having been a judge over Israel and there have been many nations ruled by queens and empresses and although the U.S.A. had not yet had a female president the Philippines, Nicaragua and Ireland have had female presidents and the U.K. and Pakistan have had female prime ministers and we have had female governors, mayors, judges and female police officers and Christians are morally obligated to comply with their orders as long as they don’t order them to defy God for it is written in the Acts of the Apostles that we must obey God rather than man (or woman).
