“those woods,” i told her, “mean more to me than i can explain. watch the treetops sway to a silent concerto, gently synchronized, as if a single voice could break them apart. its the trees that make you fall into an awed silence. the leaves make their descent slowly, ruby red and glittering jade, floating through the labyrinth of wilderness, past charcoal-brown branches and trunks with bark like cracked enamel. look through the trees into the canopy and watch birds shoot by in hot pursuit of this season’s love and dragonflies, a deep sparkling aquamarine, gliding through the warm air. rest amongst the patches of soft, sparse grass and wildflowers, a contradiction of strong stems and delicate blossoms, overtaking the dead in the forest with majestic life. and just close your eyes and inhale the sweet smell of clean earth and untapped vitality, let the world’s wild beauty collapse in on you and make you take root and bloom.”
