Going Somewhere
After a long couple of years of considering it off and on, semi-seriously or not seriously at all, and just plain wondering if I could and/or should do it……I’ve decided the time has come to do a near-complete rewrite of my most beloved creation, Going Nowhere. I’ve been reading through it again lately, and I’ve really come to be bothered by the complete and utter lack of story. There’s barely even a common thread holding the whole thing together (Warren’s half-assed search for a girl). It’s mostly just a series of comedy skits held together by the characters themselves. My first inclination was some kind of "faux documentary," be it "movie within a movie" or an actual documentary within the movie itself, but it was still kind of hard to get a story in there somewhere. So Will and I started throwing some ideas around for a bit earlier tonight, and we may have hit on something, even something using the documentary-style thing I was going for. The characters are going to change, some more than others. Some will get new names (perhaps all except Kayla…..I love that name too much to abandon it). The jokes were just too dated, too dumb, and, to tell the truth, unnecessarily vulgar. Sure a lot of people speak in really vulgar tones, but those characters were amped up too much. The characters need to grow up, be living in the real world….those kinds of things. So that’s where I think it’s headed. And I’m excited to revisit this labor of love all over again.
Nevermind that I still haven’t finished the Darin/Ayme story. But I will. It’s almost done. I just need to get some quiet time at work for a couple of days to get it all down on paper. Then I can type it up and share. And move on.
Now Playing in Dave’s Mental Jukebox: "Beg" by Evans Blue, "Numb/Encore" by Linkin Park and Jay-Z, and "Waking Up" by 10 Years
Finally there is a concert coming along that even I just can’t resist. The local rock station, 102.9 The Buzz, has announced the main lineup for their (mostly) annual Buzzfest, and I must say that I’m floored. The big three for me are Breaking Benjamin, Staind, and Evans Blue. Really, just Breaking Benjamin and Evans Blue was enough for me. But Staind, too? Yeah, I’m going to be there. I’ve never been much on concerts, but fuck it. I can’t miss this. Even if there are other bands there I don’t give a shit about. Gotta have built in breaks for other shit. What can I say, though….. Breaking Benjamin has put out two (and soon to be three, I have faith) fantastic albums, and Evans Blue has put out perhaps the greatest album of the last ten years (yeah, I said it……you wanna fight about it?!). So I must see this. Especially since grass passes are $10.29. I’d be beyond fucking stupid to skip it.
I think my opportunity has finally come at work. I’ve not wanted to leave there to get more money, and I think the way has now come……..assuming I would get the job. I still wouldn’t have to deal with customers (not much, anyway), but I wouldn’t get to sit around and do nothing very often. But that’s fine if they pay me enough. The shit part is that I’d have to work every single Sunday (which means no Titans home games). And I might have to occasionally be the "Manager on Duty," meaning I’d get to deal with problems. Basically, three different manager jobs are going to be open at the store, and I want one of ’em. It’s the one in charge of doing the signs in the store. I think I’m gonna put in for it. And I’ll just be waiting for them to tell me I’m too valuable to lose at what I do now……..then I could demand to be paid as such. Either way, I think I’ll win in the end.
I’ve become addicted to Hex on BBC America. It’s a show about a girl who becomes a witch and is pursued by a fallen angel while consulting the ghost of her best friend about all things. It’s a pretty awesome show. Mostly, though, I think I’m just in love with the character Thelma (the ghost). What is it with me and hot goth chicks? I’ve been recording the past few episodes of the show, though, so I can watch ’em again. It’s that good.
Meh, I guess this is good enough for tonight. I’m kinda starting to wear down. So I declare this a CUT!
