Ive exhausted this implacable edifice

With its sallow, mirthless echoes telling me nothing Ive never heard before

These eastern sun dried walls keep their faces straight lest a smooth ceiling reveal their nakedness

At which northern would blench

 

then crimson

 

Cornered by another blank stare from whitewashed west

With two windows to see through youd think it would own a view to look at

It still snubs its door at south, as a master brushes off a much too eager slave

Lets find us a reasonable cave

 

 

We crave a crevice that whistles in the dark in a hollow frightened voice

Drugs us both with heavy sourmoss

And we sprawl helpless on a bed of spears clawing at our backs

We covet a chamber that would creep its cold, damp palms and fondle us in our sleep

Will lust over our faces burnished with the tears of a thousand stalactites

Past a dozen amazed, bloodthirsty bats entangled in our hair

 

screaming our names

 

Until silent night heeds their call and repeats the verdict in approbation of our lot

Its life without parole, please lock up the pair

 

Thats where.
