Pan’s Labyrinth
A and I saw Pan’s Labyrinth yesterday afternoon. It is a Spanish movie, so there are subtitles, but I recommend it anyway. It is set in 1944 Spain and is about a little girl, about 11 or 12, I would say, who moves back and forth between a rather unpleasant reality and a mysterious underground kingdom. It has some resemblances to Labyrinth, but is very different too. I was transfixed by the child’s face. She was beautiful, very mobile, and very childlike, in that just about to become a teen but not there yet kind of way.
I want to see it. But I think I will go to an IMax theatre.

Have you noticed how many of these young actors/actress types can do a part like that and then fade in obscurity?

It was indeed a fascinating film. I was absolutely blown away by the fantasy/alternate reality sequences.
