We take for granted what is really important
While I was driving home from work yesterday, I pulled up to a stop sign, a Mother was pushing a stroller with a baby in it and walking a small dog, and she had, I’m assuming, her daughter, I’m guessing about 3 or 4, the daughter was carrying a stick and was walking really slow, enjoying her big stick. I didn’t mind waiting for them to cross the street as it was entertaining watching the girl. Her Mother on the other hand was getting pissed off, kept yelling at the little girl, and the girl was wanting to draw something in the dirt on the side of the road with her stick, and the mother was getting more annoyed and grabbed the little girl by the arm and kinda pulled her, she took the stick from her and threw it away and the little girl seriously looked heartbroken. I watched as they crossed the street, the girl crying and the mother yelling at her and pulling her arm. This made me angry and wondered how the Mother would feel if she had a husband who treated her like that, or anyone treated her like that. The little girl was just enjoying life and her stick and her Mother took it away from her.
I think people are just too much in a hurry and don’t take the time to appreciate what is really important in life. The stick was really important to this little girl because it created things out of nothing, like the smiley face she was attempting to draw in the dirt on the side of the road. I hope this wasn’t an indication of how the Mother actually treats her children but instead just a frustrated Mother trying to move along and get out of the way thinking I was getting impatient.
This just reminds me not to take things too seriously and to enjoy life and if I ever find a stick in my path, to pick it up and create some beauty out of a pile of dirt. 🙂
A very good life lesson.

I agree. I have a lot of road rage, but when I consciously stop myself and try to breathe, I start letting people in front of me, waiting for people to do what they have to do without honking, and it just feels better. We are just animals with angry instincts and we have to train ourselves to be more appreciative. No doubt.

ok my dear, i totally need that story!! i’m a completely impatient person, always rushing from one thing to the next, so its great to be reminded to just slow down and enjoy life. reminds me, i need to go home, take my shoes off and walk through the grass in our yard, lol…amazing how “enjoying nature” can slow your heartrate down a bit.

I agree, it seems like people are always in a hurry. It is the little things in life that matter. Let her enjoy the stick. *smiles* Please re-add me to your friends list.
