Pre-Op Appointment
I went down to the city for my pre-op appointment and speak with the anesthesiologist. They asked me questions, took blood, did a chest xray also. They said I am booked for a 4 hour operation, whether it takes that long, they don’t know, because they don’t know all they need to do yet. Apparently the scar isn’t going to be as long as I first thought, will cut just above my bellybutton, down to my pelvic, I thought they were cutting me from my breast bone, thank goodness!!
The anesthesiologist went over different options of putting me under, she is recommending I have an epidural as well as a general, she said this way, it helps with the pain more, and she won’t need to sedate me as much as she would if i just had a general. I know they give an epidural to pregnant women when in labour, I never had it. So if anyone had it, were you ok with it? She described how it’s done and it doesn’t sound nice, I will be awake when the needle is inserted and she said there will be a lot of discomfort, alot of pressure and not a good pressure, but I’m wondering if it would feel like it did when I had the perc drain in my abdomen when they drained my cyst, that was a big needle too and a lot of pressure, but it wasn’t really painful, was just very weird feeling. So I’m just gonna do some research on it and decide.
The operation is at 8am but have to be there at 6am, and it’s about a 2 hour drive, which means I have to leave at 4am, which means I have to get up at 3am.. I’m thinking I won’t even need a general, I’ll be too tired on my own lol.. will suck too, wont be able to have a tea for my drive down!
My visit to the hospital today to do all this was rather nice, I got down there in time, no rush hour traffic, missed it all, got a good parking space, didn’t have to wait long for anything, even the short notice for the xray, was in and out, did everything in about an hour total, awesome!!
So it really looks like it’s happening and after speaking with everyone today, I feel more at ease with it all, but will still be really scared the day of, but I’m tough and will deal with it. I won’t have my phone with me so you all won’t know anything til I get back home, they said the hospital stay will be about 3 or 4 days depending how I’m healing, so not so bad. I’m just happy it’s finally happening and I can get on with my life, go to work and be healthy again..can’t wait!
Peace Love Moose <3
Could you possibly just drive down there the night before and rent a hotel room? Maybe you won’t have to get up at 3am. Chicks with scars are hot.

I had an epidural with my second kid. Didn’t hurt at all. I honestly didn’t feel it. They made me sit on the stretcher and bend over at the waist and they did it. It was definitely better than having a baby without one (like I did with the first) I was completely numb from the waist down. The contractions only made my belly feel itchy until the very end when I pushed him out. You can sometimesget a very bad headache afterward from it, but I didn’t. I hope that helps. Good luck with the surgery! I bet you’ll feel so much better after its all done!

Good news on the date…sounds like it was nice. I’m so glad for you! And epidurals aren’t bad…it’s the shot they give you to numb the area first that bothered me, but it’s over quick as long as you have a good slouch or can get a good curve to your back if they put you on your side. Everything’s going to be fine, remember the reading from the psychic? Be strong and have a good recovery!

Getting an epidural isn’t so bad, it feels more awkward than anything else. Definitely less painful than contractions, though I don’t see how that will matter for your operation. 😉 Best of luck!
