The Chubchubs wii fit experiement – Day1

Day 1:

BMI: 27.30 Overweight

Weight: 148.4lbs

Wii Fit age: 34

 

I thought I’d give this a try because I read about a man who lost 10lbs in eight weeks using nothing but wii fit. It was an independent video game review, so why not? it seems a lot cheaper than my gym membership, and i’ve always wanted to try yoga…and i hate working out in front of people. I think if i am EVER fit and gorgeous, then i wouldn’t mind being in front of people in my work out clothes, but I’m not so this should be a pretty good start, right? Normally, when I read about men who have lost weight, I immediately get discouraged. Men’s bodys don’t store half as much water as women’s bodies do, and women are programmed to their weight on. I’m not using it as an excuse, of course, but for girls it is slightly harder to lose weight, and the strategies that work for men don’t necessarily work for women.

But I am a woman, so if I stick to the rules of my experiment, then maybe I can help other women determine whether or not it might be a good idea to buy a wii fit for working out at home. So here are the rules. I’ll try to do no less than 30 minutes every day and no more than about an hour.  I won’t stick to any particular diet, but i’ll try to keep it to 3 meals and a few snacks per day.

My Wii fit Activities: Day 1

A cute animated balance board seems to be my friend and takes my information, weight, then checks my center of balance, which apparently leans to the right. Then, he does a wii fit age check. Which turns out to be 10 years older than my current age. I wouldn’t be surpised if that’s true, but I’ve heard that age fluctuates, so i’m not going to put much faith in it. Then the game asked me to pick between a male and female trainer. they’re simulations, so i don’t mind them as much as i would mind a skinny girl in a leotard telling me to "feel the burn"

I start off with the strength training. I HATE strength training normally because i am the weakest person alive, i’m fairly certian. I’m not very strong…but i’ve heard that strength training increases the number of calories you burn throughout the day, and increases the number of calories you burn during cardio, which is why i chose it first…also, i just wanted to get it out of the way.  I started with the Push-ups and Side Planks. I HATE Pushups. i can’t even do one normally, so i did girl pushups. My female simu-trainer guides me through the excercise first, saying that for each pushup I’ll be doing a side plank. I know these are all good for your back and arms, so I struggle through them….none too gracefully. I think if i had to set a goal right now, it would be to be able to do just one proper pushup sideplank combination.

Then I did the rest of the excercises. I liked the jack knife situps, and there were only a few reps for my first day. The torso twists were a peice of cake. The lunges were really stretching. The balance board encourages you to have proper form on every excercise. that is really helpful. By the end of my total session today, I unlocked rowing squats and single leg twists, but being that it’s my first day, i’d rather not stretch myself too much. I’ll talk about those tomorrow.

Next I did arobics. the hulahoop game was a lot of fun.  all you have to do is stand on the balance board and rotate your hips. and to make it more interesting, Miis stand on either side of you and chuck hula hoops at you to catch. that was a bit of a challenge.

The step game was more challenging than it looks. i think the trick is to watch the Miis who are stepping in front of you and just try to mirror their movements, trying to look at the feet guide seems impossible, so far.

Basic Run. Actually this is running in place. I hate running almost as much as I hate strength training. But this wasn’t so bad. it was only two or three minutes and encouraged you to keep a slow pace behind another Mii. I felt a real sense of accomplishment after completing that activity, and for good measure I did the 2-p run. it is supposed to be for two different people, but I just took my two controllers and ran with 1 in either hand. I heard that you can unlock more activities by doing the 2-p run. turns out you can just unlock the longer basic run.

That was all the aerobic activities so far. as you do more, you unlock more. Thats actually a positive. i guess nintendo didn’t want out of shape people stretching themselves too much.

I did the balance games next. These are awesome. they’re all a lot of fun, though i hear they get boring after a while, they’re still really challenging. The soccer heading game was the game i found hardest. but right now they’re all really tough. I

I ended my work out with the yoga poses. I heard yoga is supposed to help you relax or something. the first activity, breathing, was the only activity that i actually found relaxing. This is because i was consentrating so hard on keepin my balance through all of the poses, that I couldn’t possibly relax. but I think because this is my first day, it will only get easier. I am also fairly certian that as i go on the number of repititions will increase.

So. that was my first day of Wii Fit. Thoughts; Not that bad. I spent 36 minutes working out and it didn’t feel like it at all.
