Patter..
My nails are broken and dirty. I pulled a half dead spider out of my black bra. There are itchy things in my hair and on my scalp. I HAD to take a shower before bed. I smelled of perspiration and dirt. I spent over 200 dollars I didn’t really have. But the flowers are in. Most of them are baskets and color bowls. Frank potted most of what needed potted. We both edged and weeded and watered. My summer cottage is coming alive again.
We had the party at my cousin’s for our moms. My mother was barely there. She held court on one of Liz’s loveseats, bundled in a homemade fleece blanket. I think I saw her move once to go to the bathroom. But she enjoyed herself. Some of her sisters and various other sundry family showed themselves. We had pulled pork and Italian beef sandwiches and a few pretty salads and some dips. There was cake and ice cream and I think I drank at least 4 glasses of wine. I think I drank to try to feel better. I have not been feeling well for several days now. An irritating virus, perhaps. I am not so ill I can’t make it out of bed..though I did come home early from work on Friday to try to sleep it off. I didn’t succeed.
This has been the coldest, wettest Memorial Day Weekend I can remember. I can’t imagine anyone opening their pool.
The next few days will be trying: We will be watching my daughter’s 2 dogs, a Westie named Lola and a silky terrier named Finley while the kids are away in London and Ireland for close to 2 weeks. My mother’s birthday is Tuesday. Thursday I host book club. It is possible next weekend we are away to a wild-life park where we’ve rented a caboose(renovated into a rough cabin) for 2 nights to introduce the boys to camping.
I am tired thinking about all of it. Plus working. And dealing with the 2 boys. Who managed today to get into a can of orange paint their father had foolishly left laying in an accessible place in the back yard.
I think we salvaged their clothes. Q had on a brand new pair of denim jeans and shirt I had literally pulled out of the shipping bag just this morning.
I hope I rest easier tonight. I was awake and panicked until the wee hours. I finished the (poorly written) murder mystery I’d been dawdling over. I haunted the internet. I fretted. Then finally I slept to the patter of rain.
I think I will try. It’s raining again.
It has been an unusually cool Spring I think. Wonder what the summer is gonna be?
