A lovely Saturday gateway to the holidays.

Spent most of the morning hard at work. House was a bit trashed. No, more than a bit. Some heated words flew. As did some laundry, dust, and trash. But it was done by the time my daughter and her husband rolled up at the curb. I even had time for a long hot bath. Dani had to get a shower as she flew in the door, announcing not to worry she’d already moved our dinner reservations a half hour later. While she dolled up, I loaded the dishwasher, found pajamas for the boys ad Frank and I went ahead and fed the boys dinner. The sitter and her college guy arrived and we had a few moments to chat.

We made it to our restaurant (Seven) by six thirty (time) and had a nice dinner with martinis and wine and even dessert. Lots of fun sparkly conversation, twinkling christmas lights and candles. We met some of the kids’ friends out for a drink but I was ready to go home midway through my glass of Malbec .The night was winter-chilly. We got home, hurried in and talked more to the sitter and her guy. I had some words of wisdom since they are both not quite 20 and halfway through a pregnancy. I must say I was quite impressed with the guy. He looks  young and baby-faced but he has half a brain and nice manners. He thanked us for our words and shook both our hands firmly. I can only hope for some of him in my little men coming up.

Frank is slumped next to me. It’s time for bed. I like what I wore tonight: a bright printed jacket from Chico’s over a black lace tank, black jeans and shiny black heels. I wore my black wool swing coat for the first time this winter. There was a patch of ice in the alleyway leading from the parking lot.

I am ready for Cam’s Mickey Mouse party tomorrow but I am NOT ready for winter.
