School is oh so close to being let out…
Human chess was super-fun. We played three games, in the first two, I was a knight, and in the third, I was the king (I got to tell everyone how to move!). Loads and loads and loads of fun. While I was a knight, I went about stabbing people (knights’ props were swords), and I won the game where I was the one "playing". But it was more just hanging out with a bunch of fun people on a warm spring day wearing strange outfits and generally feeling care-free.
I am loving my OD+ membership, even if it will only last for three days. I love leaving long notes, and I love being able to search through my own diary. Some day I will buy a lifetime membership. That some day will have to be when I am actually being paid to work, and not just for free. Some day.
I played DnD with Max and Alex last night, also. This group of DnDers is the only one I’ve met who will smoke and drink while playing. And I don’t mean cigarettes, either. It’s kind of a strange experience. I haven’t really been around weed since I quit, so there’s always the factor of "Oh, weed." But it’s also just a bit odd playing with people who are high. Not odd-bad, just odd. There was also a new player last night, whose thinking of playing with us long term. I would not object. She’s a cute blonde girl. 😉 She’s also really nice, and intelligent, and generally my sort of insta-crush.
I went to yoga with my mom this morning. She said that she mentioned to my dad that I was thinking of changing my name… it didn’t go down well. He basically said "she can do whatever she wants, but yeah, it still does hurt my feelings." So I’ll tread carefully for a bit, but I think he’ll come around eventually. My mom also suggested keeping his last name, but making it a second middle name instead of part of the last name. I hadn’t actually considered that. It might be a viable option. I still don’t really like the name though… Sigh. I hope this doesn’t stir up too much drama. That is not what I want right now.
I love the new Spring weather! It has been so lovely out, and it’s supposed to stay lovely– I actually heard someone say that no more snow was predicted for the rest of forever. Until next winter, at least. It’s about time! I’m sick of this snow crap! Let it be spring already, GOSH!
Katrina and Ian got in a fight today. I’m glad that we’ll be moving apart soon. They’re getting very… hard to be around. A few days ago, I texted Bryan "Katrina and Ian are at it again." His response: "Fighting or sex?" Well, I’d meant loud sex, but I think his response accurately sums up their situation. Those two things are pretty much the only things they do lately, and it’s awkward for me, either way.
I’m just glad we’re "suitemates" instead of "roommates". Single rooms for the win! It was so worth the extra money. (Especially with a boyfriend, teehee.)
I keep having the urge to paint my toenails some sort of spring-time-y shade of exciting, but then I remember that I don’t actually really care that much. So I don’t.
I had a bunch of disagreements with my computer today. You see, it seems to think that when I rip a DVD onto my computer in French, I would not need subtitles. I, not speaking a word of French, tend to disagree. I tried about six (read: three) different DVD ripping softwares before I found one that would actually do what I need it to do: Just put the subtitles over the freakin’ picture, without creating a separate file that I have no idea how to get my computer to read. So, if any of you are Linux geeks who are multimedia inept, I would recommend the program acidrip. Not dvd::rip, not k9copy, and not avidemux. (I guess I actually used four programs. Huh.)
So even though it’s taking forever, I will soon have a wonderful copy of a wonderful French movie with wonderful English subtitles.
On the plus side, I understand a lot more about how subtitles work in movies, now. So I can’t really complain that much, because I’ve never really understood even the basics of how they were programmed, but now I do. Huzzah!
I am thoroughly stoked that there are only a week and a half of classes left in the semester. And then a week of finals. And then I have a lovely house with a lovely boyfriend and soon a lovely puppy. And life will be lovely.
I hope everyone’s having a good one!

You can search through your diary with a workaround. You can download it as a text file and then search with notepad. ^_^

Hey, I found you on random! I’m a student at the U also, and totally am enjoying the spring weather. How on earth did you find a D&D group here? I’ve been looking for four whole years!
