New house, among other things
My entry title is decidedly lacking creativity. Oh well.
News today: We got the keys to the house! We’ve divvied up rooms, played with the showers (there are very exciting shower heads; each one has about five different knobs and all sorts of hoojits), roughly outlined kitchen organization, discussed our furniture needs…
So that’s exciting. I’m getting the ground-level floor with the French doors. All of the rooms are really great, honestly. Well, all except the loft. It’s the biggest room in the house, easily, but it doesn’t have windows, and it’s pretty stuffy. John doesn’t care about those, so we’ve given it to him. He does, however, care that it doesn’t have a door, and he’s not too enthused about hanging up a curtain. Hopefully his uber-grumpiness is mostly coming from finals stress, and not that he’s super unhappy about the room arrangement. Honestly, the loft is the most out-of-the-way room in the house, and thus the most private. You can barely see in from the stairs below, and so with a curtain, it would be super private. Which is John’s main concern.
But my room is great. It has a huge picture window (looking out on a major thoroughfare– oh well, you can’t win them all), a decently large closet (the largest is Bryan’s walk-in closet; he got the room that I wanted most, but we all wound up compromising a bit. Except Bryan. But whatever. I’m really happy downstairs, and he wouldn’t have been). My closet is also nothing to complain about, and I have floor length mirrors for closet doors, which, upon further consideration, is a really good thing. Our bathroom mirrors are pretty small, and I really really really like being able to completely see myself in the mirror in the morning. So that will be really nice.
Also, three words: stainless steel appliances. Our kitchen is completely new, with fantastic appliances. Better than any I’ve ever had, and just as good as any I’ve ever used. A six-range gas stove? With convection oven? Hells yes! This place is going to be my home for the next two years. Seriously. It hasn’t even sunk in yet, and I’m still super thrilled. There are also tulips out front and scattered throughout the backyard. I love tulips. This place is going to be great.
So let’s see, other than being incredibly busy with school (which is why I haven’t updated much), and the house, nothing really big is going on. While running errands at the library the other day, I did run into Nick, and old friend from high school. Those of you who read my diary back then probably remember him as "Hallway Boy." During my senior year of high school, I barely attended classes. Going home wasn’t really an option, either, so I just wandered the hallways of school a lot. And it seemed that every few days or so, I would run into Hallway Boy. We started talking a lot, and I found that he’s really really super smart. And a really good person.
When I graduated from high school, I saw him at the ceremony, and invited him to a party. We attended the party, but weren’t really part of it, actually. We wound up sitting on the roof for most of the night just talking. He had plans to join the airforce, and I was moving off to college. We exchanged phone numbers, but I knew that I would never see him again. He didn’t plan on ever coming back to Salt Lake.
We both lost the phone numbers.
But he didn’t join the airforce. That fell through. And he’s started attending school at the local community college. In engineering of some sort. (He told me, but I can’t remember just now) And we ran into one another at the library. It was really cool. We exchanged phone numbers (with cell phones this time; he has one now), and have been texting back and forth for a while. Running into him made my day.
But alas, I have not had many adventures outside of the house and Nick. I’ve been too busy studying for finals (which are over on Thursday!), and generally not leaving my room. Also, I’ve been playing too many flash games (which are now blocked on my computer, for reals this time), and reading waaaay too many newspaper articles on swine flu. I mean, on N1H1 or whatever the fuck it’s called now.
I am off to study for Biochemistry, whose final is on Monday and is worth 60% of my grade. If I do well, I could pull an A. If I do poorly, I could fail. I love how tests are so determining like that. Not really. But that’s why I’m going to go study hard for it. Really really hard. Bye now!
Your new house sounds so exciting! Sorry I disappeared for a while. Good luck with all your finals!! 🙂

I can imagine how it feels to discover a new place where you are going to stay for a longer time. Exciting. I don’t know either how the flu is called. Mexican flu, swine flu, new flu… all these names have been used. It doesn’t matter, I wish you luck in your finals.
