I’ve cleaned my room!
It’s true. I did. To motivate myself, I took before and after pictures. I also then started taking pictures around my room, and you get to see it! Kind of– I only put a few in here. But you should enjoy the pictures, nonetheless.
I’m glad that you can sortof see the mountains in this picture; it was taken in the very late afternoon (almost sunset, actually) where the sun lights up the mountains. The point is that I have a fantastic view, and you can kind of see it from this picture.
Proof that my room was really really messy: (And you can’t see all of it; I was standing on some dirty laundry while I took the picture.)
Aaaaaaaaand, it’s cleaned! That took me about two hours. Gross. Normally my room takes ~15 minutes to clean. 2 hours is utterly ridiculous; I really should not clean it once a month. It had gotten really horrible.
I have the strong desire to point out everything of interest in my bedroom, but I will refrain. I think that that would get boring. Instead I will leave you with one tidbit of information: I made the quilt on my bed myself. It took about a half a year to make, working on it 2-3 days a week for 1-2 hours each day that I worked on it. I love it oh so much.
I have several plants in my room (you can’t see them all in the picture), and my favorite by far is Kate, the peace lily. She currently has one flower bloomed and another one sprouting up. Peace lilies are really cool because their flowers just look like white leaves, but with a stamen in the center. They also (the peace lilies, not their flowers) process A LOT of CO2 and other unpleasant gases into oxygen. In short, a really great plant to have around.
Oh, and yes, I have a zebra-head planter from the 60s. It’s also fantastic.
I meant to just take a snapshot of the new flower growing up, but the picture turned into a really neat silhouette. I really like it a lot.
Also, I don’t think I mentioned how excited I am that Kate is growing a second flower! She’s never ever had two at once before– she’s been growing so much since I got her; she’s practically doubled in size! Once I move to the new house, I’m going to repot her (she really really needs it) and find something else exciting to go in the zebra head.
And a final, silly shot; my intellectual stegosaurus:
The books across the bottom: Anna Karenina, Me Talk Pretty One Day, The Picture of Dorian Gray, A Tale of Two Cities, Smoke and Mirrors, and The Dispossesed.
So, I got two of my three favorite books of all time in the shot: A Tale of Two Cities and The Dispossed. (The third is Sabriel by Garth Nix.) The Dispossesed is probably my favorite of ever. It’s not really even describeable, but I will highly suggest it to anyone who enjoys reading. (It’s a bit hard to get started– the writing style is almost Victorian, so if you have a hard time with that sort of thing I actually probably wouldn’t recommend it.)
I’m actually currently rereading it for the fifth (fifth? Maybe fourth… I’ve read it a lot, either way) time. Taking this picture actually inspired me to reread the book. I haven’t read any happy books in a long time, and it’s about time I got around to one. (Not that The Dispossesed is particularly happy, mind you, but it is very very optimistic and uplifting. I, personally, find it to be a happy book, but not everyone would agree with me).
I don’t have anything else to say. Today has been pretty uneventful. I finished cleaning my room (I did start last night after finishing writing the diary entry), and went to class, and studied… And now I’m at my parents’ house, writing this.
I’m going to go back to working! Tootles, everyone!
Ah, I love that furniture. Your college accomodation is so much nicer then the crap these Brits make us put up with. 😛

Nice room 🙂 What is that thing hanging by your closet door? I love that zebra planter, by the way. That’s so cool.

I think every college here has basically the same furniture… variation on a theme. Also, what kind of camera did you use? There are some wicked moire patterns on your carpet.
