Federer wins, Italy too and Pirates, oh my!

What a weekend. It was actually a really good one!  I went home to hang out with my best friend.  Besides hanging out with her and watching Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Man’s Chest, the rest of the weekend was spent watching a lot of tennis and football…yes, football…not soccer…but football…that’s what the majority of the world calls it.

Federer’s win today was awesome.  It’s funny because during the French Open, I was so cheering on Nadal.  But something in me changed.  I think back during the French Open I was still carrying a grudge because he beat Agassi in the US Open finals last year.  Plus, I didn’t want him to win a career grand slam…Agassi was the last one to do so.  But since then, he’s so won me over and now that Agassi is retiring, I think Federer is my fave!  I loved watching him play!  Plus, I want someone to beat Sampras’s record soooo bad!  The game was great.  And even though I was rooting for Federer, I didn’t want it to be a quick game.  I was disapointed when when he won the first set 6-0 but then Nadal didn’t disappoint.  He came back with a vengence…but wasn’t good enough on grass to beat Federer!!  I loved the game!

Next my dad and I started watching the World Cup finals.  I was rooting for France…for no reason really…just because I needed to choose a team to root for and I took French as my foreign language back in high school.  The first two goals came early on in the game, but then things slowed down a lot.  I found myself wondering why I don’t watch soccer more often.  The Italian guys were hot!  I was cheering on France until their captain Zidane acted like an ass.  I don’t understand at all.  I mean, here’s this guy who’s a soccer legend and this is his last game ever before he retires….the game is tied and he probably knows that it’s going to end in penalty kick, which he’s supposed to be really good at.  Instead of just playing it out, he head butts some guy on the Italian team…I’m sure some words were exchanged, but really?  Head butting someone and getting a red card and getting kicked out of the game when if he stayed, France might have won the game?  And he’s the captain of that team?  What kind of example is he setting for them?  I just can’t believe he did that.  I bet he’s kicking himself now.  I mean, he could have gone out in a blaze of glory…instead he walked off with his head bent.  I started cheering for Italy at that time and as I predicted, it went into penalty kicks and Italy won!!  It was great!  Again, I wonder why I’ve never watched before.

Saturday, we went to go watch Pirates.  OMG!  I LOVED it!  The first one was good and I liked it, but not like I loved this one.  Johnny Depp is the man!!  He’s so awesome and he’s so funny in this movie.  I think he makes these movies…if he hadn’t played Captain Jack in the way he plays him, I don’t think the movies would be nearly as entertaining.  And Orlando Bloom?  Oh what a cutie!  He was great in this movie as well.  Davey Jones was creepy and I loved how real it all looked.  The best part of the movie was Will Turner meeting Bill Turner…the whole father/son scenes gave the movie heart and I think that’s why I liked it better than the first.  As for Elizabeth…hmmm…not liking her as much anymore.  What’s up with her feelings for Jack?  She barely knows him yet the compass to show her what her heart wants keeps pointing at Jack?  And the kiss at the end?  Yes, I get she was trying to save them all, but you could see the regret written all over her face.  I have a feeling the last movie is going to be some sad love triangle between the 3 and I think that will suck and ruin the movie.  I wasn’t surprised to hear that the movie broke all kinds of box office records this weekend.  When we went to see it…a matinee in the early afternoon in our little town, the lines were huge and the theaters packed even though they were showing the movie on 4 different screens.  It’s most likely going to be the biggest blockbuster of this summer.  In my opinion, it didn’t beat X-Men but it was quite good and up there with some of my favorite big summer action movies.  I loved the ending of the movie though I guess we all know that Jack doesn’t die because we all know Johnny Depp is off filming the 3rd movie know.  I’m looking forward to seeing them go to the Edge of the World and to see where it leads.  I’m just hoping they stay away from the whole love triangle thing.

And now the weekend is over and it’s back to normal life again.

I missed the tennis match, but I caught the football final, and I think that head butt cost France the title. He’s going to have a hard time getting over that one… Glad to hear you loved the movie! Leah’s gonna try again to see it on Tuesday. Her first attempt was sold out. The movie made a pretty penny over the weekend… Later,

i slept a little late and thought i was in for a quick wrap up when i woke up and saw that 6-0 score. quite a game followed though! footie has never been my thing. i’m not rushing to see Pirates either. i’m one of the 8 people in the world who didn’t like the first one that much. i would have hated it were it not for Depp. it was shocking to see how record-breaking this new one was! ~

I’ve been speaking French since age 5 and majored in it in university and I was cheering for Italy! And I was glad I was, watching Zidane’s behaviour. I like the pic you posted. He looks like a child being given a timeout. I’m not sure if I’ll see the new Pirates, but I do like Johnny Depp.
