walk the road a while…

I gave the baby a bath, solo, for the first time yesterday.  So far, this had been a job that my wife and I had done together, or that she had done alone.  You may be asking yourself, "Why is giving a squirmy baby a bath such a big deal, Mr. Cheese?"  Well, baby boys carry a loaded weapon around with them at all times – a weapon that they have very little control over.  This, plus the element of being totally naked, can lead to near disaster, especially for a germ freak like myself.

This dangerous weapon also presents itself when diapers are  being changed, which has lead me to become the quickest diaper changer this side of the MIssissippi.

A friend of mine made an interesting comment the other day:  Who would have ever guessed that of the two  girls who starred in Dawson’s Creek years ago, 2006 would have one carrying Tom Cruise’s child, and the other nominated for an Oscar.

So one of my students brings me a piece of paper the other day and says, "Mr. Cheese, how do you like the poem I wrote last night?"

With a little love
and some tenderness
We’ll walk upon the water
We’ll rise above this mess

"Interesting," I say to myself.  Sounds familiar, but I read on.

With a little peace
and some harmony
We’ll take the world together
We’ll take them by the hand

Pretty good for an 11 year old…I scan down the page a bit more.

Hold my hand
Want you to hold my hand
Hold my hand
I’ll take you to a place where you can be
Hold my hand
Anything you wanna be because

This is the part where anyone who was alive in 1995 sings along:

I wanna love you the best that,
the best that I can

If you are going to steal someone elses words, even if they only belong to Hootie, don’t pick a song that was on the radio 24/7 for 2 years straight.
