like harrison ford, i’m getting frantic

I saw the new Star Wars movie yesterday.  While much better than Episode 1 and Episode 2, it still didn’t compare to the originals.  It was just too "busy."  The whole thing was one giant sensory overload – even the scenes which only featured characters talking to each other had dozens of spacecrafts whizzing around in the background.  Just because the technology is available to fill the screen with ships, monsters, and various other effects, doesn’t mean you have to do it.  Keep it simple like the originals – desert, ice, forest – stick with what works.

A movie that I want to see even more after watching the trailer yesterday: Mr. and Mrs. Smith
A movie that I thought I wanted to see until watching the trailer: Fantastic Four

Feeling old, Episdoe 1: Mentioning to my wife that I saw the original Star Wars in a movie theater when I was a kid.  To be more specific, her reaction to that revelation, "Geez, I don’t think I was even born."

Feeling old, Episode 2: Sitting in the car after the movie, eating ice cream, and listening to the 80s on XM.  Thinking that this is just like being back in high school, except instead of finding some dark, hidden place to park we’re sitting right in front of the shopping center in the "reserved for expectant mothers" parking space.

Excuse me while I go find my walking cane and Geritol.

It must have been one of those “week-ends to feel your age” for everyone…I had the radio on Sunday morning and they were playing a lot of the top hits from 1985 and I was really enjoying hearing all of my old favorites until some young twit reminded me that the songs were 20 years old! TWENTY YEARS! How did that happen?!?!?!
