Of Ghosts and Dorm Rooms (Pt. 2)
Over the next few weeks, Ronnie, Rich and I decided that we wanted to help Matty. Try and do things for her that she couldn’t because she was ‘trapped’. We communicated with her as much as we could. I came home one day to find the board open and ready in the middle of the room, although I know I had put it away. I tried it myself, because no one was with me…and even though it was just me, the letters appeared…’Are you Ok?’ I called Ronnie and Rich and they came over, and oddly enough we learned that this ghost, Matty…apparition and all…had saved our lives.
I thought it was odd that day when Ronnie, Mandee, Kev and I decided to go get some Subway, and that I would drive. I went to grab my keys from the hook that they were ALWAYS on. They were gone. I looked everywhere, to no avail. Kev said he would drive, and I figured I would worry about it later. So Kev drove, and we had subs. Good times. When I got home, my keys…were hanging on the hook. Exactly where they had been a thousand times before. I had figured Heather had borrowed my car without telling me, and I made a mental note to chew her out later.
Matty would tell a different story. She said she had hidden my keys, because if I had drove, we would have all died in an accident. Now mind you, there are three Subways in Mankato. One in N. Mankato, one on Madison, and the other on Victory (if I recall correctly). I always went to the one in N. Mankato, because it was the one Mandee worked at. It was commonplace. That day Kev went to the one on Victory. Would we really have died had I drove to the other Subway? We may never know.
Later that week Ronnie and Rich came over with a brilliant idea…to them at least. They told me that if Matty could take over Heather’s body, then she should be able to do it with one of us, if we were willing. I can’t imagine where they got the idea, and I thought they were psycho. They wanted to ask her anyway and so shapes the last of the story.
Matty’s Return.
I was skeptical to say the least, so I knew I wouldn’t be the one to do it…but Matty had asked me to as a personal favor. She said she identified with me the most since it was my room. She gave us instructions and we did as we were told, holding this mock seance with candles, and that star shaped Wicaan crap. The whole nine yards. Ronnie and Rich were in this hook, line, and sinker. We held hands and did as Matty had instructed us to, in the middle of my dorm room. I remember the music queuing in at some point on it’s own, and the candles going out one by one. Three hours later, I woke up in the bathroom at the ITK house. (I Tappa Kegga).
Ronnie and Rich were standing over me wide-eyed while I was trying to figure out why I was on the floor. The exclaimed to me…’It worked, it really worked!! We met Matty through you!’ They told me that she was very friendly, and that they had no trouble believing that it was truly her, because while she was in me, even my mannerisms changed. They said I was a completely different person. Shy, insecure, they said that Matty seemed very frail, she washed her hands after she smoked a cigarette, she used her hands to talk a lot, and she always had her eyes down to the ground. Characteristics, that were just not me they said.
We brought Matty out a few more times to try and find out more information about the asshole that raped her, try to find him and bring him to justice. But how does one convict someone of something, when the witness is deceased? The school year was coming to a close, and Ronnie was graduating. She was going back to New Mexico. Rich and I had a falling out because he thought he was in love with Matty, and I told him that he was a complete idiot. I was to come back to that room next year, but without my friends to accompany me. Matty never used my body again, her crime still unsolved. Matty will forever be a late night ghost story among the residents of Gage A Hall.
I’ll leave you to your own conclusions.
nice… just the way I remember it, except for the few personal touches you gave it when you last told it. keep it comming…
