Young, Innocent, and Female
So there I was, cruising to work on the freeway. I can make the 60 mile trip in about 50 minutes usually, especially since I’m a pro at stretching the speed limit. Well, this morning, I was stretching the 65 mph to 75 and feeling good. I wanted to get gas before work, and that speed was perfect to accomplish my goal.
Suddenly, all the cars in front of me slowed down, as well as the ones in the next lane. I wondered what their problem was as I changed lanes and sped in front of them. I had a fleeting thought of the highway patrol being spotted but quickly forgot as I began to accelerate down a hill. Now it’s along hill, nice and steep and twisty… and those kinds of things just make my foot get heavy. And I don’t stop it.
For no apparant reason I look to my side to almost feel my heart jump out of my chest… there he is, the highway patrolman, and i’m doing 80 mph and getting ready to fly past him. Not wanting to look suspicious, I used my cruise control button to gradually slow down my car.
By now, I’m pretty sure I’m going to get pulled over for the first time in my driving career. I’m trying to keep calm… breath in, breath out, slow down a little bit more. I’ve never gotten a ticket and I certainly don’t want one… especially since my auto insurance has gone down a whole 32 dollars and I am now only paying 30 dollars a month for it. Suddenly, I feel the harsh whiteness of a spotlight illuminating my car… my face… my panic. Instead of giving in to my urge to look over and freak out, I stared straight ahead of me, assumed a comfortable “I’m not doing anything officer” face and posture and prayed that he would just leave me alone.
Just as I thought I’d see the lights swirling and hear that ominous “bwooop” sound, the officer turned off the light, sped up and disapeared down the road. I realized I wasn’t breathing and took a nice, refreshing gulp of air.
As I look back on my mornings adventure I realize two things. Number 1: I should have gotten that ticket… but I didn’t because I’m young and innocent looking as well as female…
Number 2: I am so thankful I am young and innocent looking, as well as female!!!!

I’m so glad you didn’t get a ticket! My friend once got pulled over for speeding, and she started CRYING. It wasn’t a gimmick or anything, but it worked! Hee hee. I need to get my license so that I can experience that heart-numbing panic. 😉
