Vegas Baby! (1:The Flight and first few hours)
Ok, I just had cake and ice cream and chips and salsa and fruit for the office birthday celebration (for me and one other guy)!!!
A very weird combination, but I probably won’t want much for lunch today!
I also got a 20 dollar gift card for Target (now I have $40, another 20 from my supervisor last week!) and $5 for Starbucks. wooo!
Yay for birthday funnage!
I totally forgot I have Friday off this week. huzzah!
Ok, on to the first of my Vegas entries.
So Thursday night was a mess. We had gone shopping and got snacks (we barely touched them though) and a few other odds and ends. When I got home I just had so much to do, laundry and packing and my hair and cleaning… I wanted to be in bed by 8:30… 9 at the lastest. My head didn’t hit the pillow until after 10!
I could barely sleep. I was up every hour and I think I got about 2 hours of total sleep. But I was just SO EXCITED.
I woke up before my alarm and was ready to go! We loaded up the car and headed to the bus station.
It was about this time that I realized how sleep I actually was. I kept trying to remember things but my brain was just foggy. I drove around the parking lot like a moron until I finally found a parking space and my control freak brain just wasn’t really manifesting the right amounts of control. It’s a miracle Baboo put up with me, but he was so patient, as he always is. He is just really good with me when I start going nuts. He can get annoyed, but he doesn’t really make me feel as bad as he could if he reacted differently. That’s one of the reasons I know we’re good together. heh heh.
Despite it all, I really started to get on Baboo’s nerves with my scatter brainedness. I gave the wrong airline information (I kept saying American when it was actually US Airways) and when we got to the airport I started getting nervous because I didn’t know what to expect.
It was actually not so bad. We checked our big suitcase ($15 bucks! ugh!) and made our way through security. The line was sorta long and some crazy little old lady cut in front of us (only to be told she was in the wrong line, ha ha!) but we got through security without too many hassles.
As we were waiting to go through the x-ray section I wanted to be all smooshy and cute with Baboo but he was like "rawr! no! me grouch! me be mean to youuuu!!!"
So that’s when I twittered that he was mean!! I just wanted to hold hands!!!
Bah!
So anyway, we got through that section and went over to our gate. It was about an hour and some change before our flight was to board. Baboo thought we could have left an hour later than we did, but I really wouldn’t have wanted to push it and I like not having to rush.
Anyway, we sat down and I decided to put on my make up… except I forgot my concealer and my eyeliner! the concealer isn’t a big deal, but the eyeliner sorta made a big deal cuz I found the Mascara I wanted (whee!) and it really needed to be complimented with the liner. Baboo, who has watched some youtube "how to put on make up" videos for some reason, was all up in my business telling me that I looked uneven and like I didn’t have a lower eye.
So it began to REALLY BOTHER ME that I didn’t have eyeliner. Of course, there is NOWHERE in the airport to get anything like that. I wanted to be as cute as he was (and believe me, he shaved just the way I wanted him to and he looked damn fine… rawr!) and not look like I was crazy.
We ended up getting some starbucks (mmm java chip frap!) and not long after they called for us to board. I was happy because everything was going along as planned. Baboo was getting nicer (encouraging me that I looked fine and being nice about my nerves) and things were looking up!
We got on the plane and got situated. I actually had to go to the bathroom, but I figured I’d just wait since the flight was only about an hour.
So we’re sitting there and I’m anxiously looking out the window and I see the engineers or mechanics or whatever rolling a giant tire up to our plane…
and then the announcement that we are being delayed due to a problem with the tire.
I’m glad they caught it but… JEESH! It delayed us over an hour! It sorta gave me more time to freak out.
Baboo just went to sleep.
I decided I’d go to the bathroom and right as I start the "return to your seat and fasten your seatbelt" light comes on in the bathroom!
AGADY!
So I flushed the toilet real fast (and didn’t realize I was supposed to close the lid and it made a giant woosh and I thought it was gonna suck my arm up!) and ran out to sit down. I accidentally mashed my hand on some guys head.
oops.
So we FINALLY get moving… and the take off really freaked me out. Baboo was making fun of me because I was tapping my leg and squeezing him. It was just really scary… and to see us lift off and just fly out over the ocean just had me in a total panic for some reason.
But as we leveled off it just became awesome. ha ha.
I was still a little nervous, but as we began to fly over the city I was just enthralled by how STRAIGHT everything was. Like the streets and houses… so perfect. It was weird. I took some pictures and then just sat back and stared out the window.
It’s just so crazy how CLOSE Vegas seemed. Like we didn’t fly that long and suddenly we are landing.
We did manage to get a small drink but the plane landed like 2 minutes after.
The landing was smooth and I was just so anxious to get off the plane!!!!
We made our way down to the luggage unloading area. Once again I had to pee, I was mad because the last thing I wanted to do was have to pee the entire time we were there.
We got our bags and had to go wait for our shuttle.
Yet another unecessary delay! The driver of the shuttle was waiting around for more passengers and pissing everyone off. She was a very forceful little old lady and she tried to be funny but really all I wanted to do was beat her over the head. I was starving (I hadn’t been able to eat the night before, and here it was almost 11 and my head hurt and i was grouchy and in need of food!) and anxious and I just REALLY wanted to get moving.
We finally headed out and after a weird roundabout route, we made it to our hotel.
This is where I was really anxious. I wasn’t sure if they’d want a credit card to check in and I only have debit cards…
But my fears were aleviated. Everything was pre paid and I only needed to put a card on the account if I was gonna do stuff like buy movies and such.
I didn’t plan on it so we were given the keys to our room (which we got to keep!) and we were on our way.
This is the part where I wish I had my pics. I didn’t really take room pics though. We had a nice king sized bed and a flat screen tv. The bathroom was nice with a giant tub (but it was sorta oldish so I didn’t use it as a tub) and we had a nice view of the pool. We settled in a little and I wanted to go eat and possibly do a search for some eyeliner in the stores in the hotel.
We ate at this little cafe, but neither of us was really jazzed about our food. I got a chicken sandwich and baboo a philly cheesesteak. It was ok, but bleh.
After that we got our 3 day monorail passes and headed out to go to the fashion show mall place to see if they had a drug store or SOMETHING I could get some make up in (the hotel didn’t have anything). The monorail was right outside of the hotel, which was really nice and the 3 day pass was probably one of the best things we got the entire time.
We got off at Harrah’s and that was really my first walk through of a casino. I was all aghast and googly eyed… I was finally there! And it was legal for me to stop and mess around with gambling machines! Oh boy!
We didn’t really dawdle there though. We went out and headed towards the mall place but we passed a Sephora store and I decided we’d just go there rather than waste time traipsing all the way over to the other place.
I do NOT buy expensive make up and I wanted to DIE spending $14 on some eyeliner (even though it is the best eyeliner I’ve ever had!)… but I did. I signed up for some club and I got a free set of lipgloss because it was my birthday (my first birthday present in Vegas, awww). We then decided to go check out the Venetian because it was right next door.
We went along these moving sidewalks and passed the wax museum. I wish it had been free to get in, it looked scary and interesting. We passed it though and went into the Venetian and walked around through the stores. It had the most amazing ceiling when you walk in, painted with this elaborate scene. I was like "wooooow"… then as we walked through, we saw the gondola rides in the canals and the ceiling was painted like a blue sky (looked really cool, and I saw ceilings like that in a few other places like Paris and Caesars Palace Shops) and it just had this really nice architecture all around. We looked around at some paintings and a few stores. Baboo got a cigar he wanted to smoke at some point and after that we decided to go down to the casino.
It was really nice, but we beelined for a bar and got a few drinks. The bartender said if we played the games that were in front of us, then we could have drinks comped (our first two drinks were $18.50!). So I put some money in and started to play some poker. I got a free drink not long after. I put in a dollar and I made 25 cents! So I cashed out…. but then got greedy and ended up losing 5 dollars there! Baboo played too, but he came out with some winnings.
We decided we wanted to go back to the room and rest a bit before dinner. We were both pretty tired after being up so early and we knew we would have a long night ahead!
So we went back to the room and just chilled out. I couldn’t really nap and so I laid there watching tv for most of the few hours we were relaxing. Around 5 I started getting ready for dinner. My dress looked so great and the mascara really did make my eyes sparkle and the eyeliner was really cool (even though I sorta broke it on accident by putting the wrong top on it!) and I just felt awesome and ready to go!!!!
But I probably should have taken a nap because my brain started to malfunction… and I wasn’t even drunk.
I shall continue on with this later. I need to get back to work.
