The most delicious Turkey Burger Recipe EVAR!

Ohhhhh One hour and 20 minutes til lunch tiiiiiime.

I’m starving.

I made the delicious turkey burgers again last night. They taste just as good pan fried!!!! I have one for lunch! Whee!

Ok, so I shall post the recipe for those of you who are interested in eating one of the BEST turkey burgers you will ever taste. I might actually prefer them to beef! I might have to try these ingredients in beef just to be sure though. lol.

This is the recipe per my dad, I will add my own comments in pink.

Ingredients

1 lb ground turkey breast (I used Foster Farm from Costco) (that’s what I used too!)

1/4 large onion (or about 1/8 cup dehydrated diced onion) (I use a little bit more onion, probably half of a medium sized onion)

1 large fresh jalapeno (bottled sliced jalapenos would be ok) (I usually remove most of the seeds because my kids don’t like spice, but you like SPICE, then keep most of them in I’m sure they are delicious with an extra kick!)

1 stalk celery (I use two because my stalks were smaller)

1 tablespoon olive oil for moisture (any oil would work)

1 capful of liquid smoke (maybe half a tsp)

Liberal splashes of Worcestershire sauce (My dad forgot to add these ingredients! But I didn’t!)

Tony Chachere’s Original Creole Seasoning (Super Wal-Mart is the only place I know that sells it) (I think this is a mixture of seasoning salt, garlic pepper, red pepper, and some other random stuff… if you can’t find it.)

dried parsley (I never used this because I don’t have any, its only for color), cayenne pepper, crushed red pepper

Preperation:

I recommend you put all the ingredients in cups or something so you don’t have to keep washing the raw turkey from your hands.

Finely dice the onions, jalapeno, and celery. (I pre chopped all the veggies and put them in a bowl)

Use a large bowl to mix the olive oil, onions, jalapeno, and celery with the ground turkey. Mix them with your hands till it is all evenly distributed.

At this point I add the liquid smoke and Worcestershire sauce, before the dry seasonings. I’m sure you could add these in the first step if you like!

Moderately sprinkle the Creole seasoning and cayenne pepper to cover the outer layer of the ground turkey mixture and mix it in by hand. You can add crushed red peppers or more jalapenos if you want it hotter.

Use a little dried parsley for color.

To form a perfect burger, use a burger press. Alternate method, make a ball of the burger mix about the size of a tennis ball, place on a sheet of wax paper, and squash them flat with the bottom of a saucer. (I make the ball in my hands and then smash it flat with my palms)

I made about 6 burgers with one pound of ground turkey.

Cooking:

If you are going to grill these, I recommend using foil on top of the grill. They tend to be very moist and can fall through if you’re not careful. They taste GREAT though. I would probably grill them for about 10 – 12 minutes on each side depending on the heat of the grill. I like to make a “test” burger that is small but the same thickness as the others, so I can check to see if it’s cooked through instead of poking into each individual burger. I also like to put them to rest in a warm oven for about 15 minutes which I think helps to cook anything else that might not be done in the center. You may find that you cook yours faster, just try to not overcook and dry them out.

For pan frying I used some olive oil cooking spray in the bottom of the pan (to stop the sticking). I put it at high heat and seared the first side. After turning and searing the second side, I turned the heat to med. – low and let them cook for another 10 minutes or so. I tested my practice burger around this time and it still wasn’t as done as I like. So I flipped them again and cooked for another little bit. I forgot to time it. The main key is watching them and not being afraid to cut inside of the center to check for them to be cooked completely.

We eat them on wheat hamburger buns. Last night I used some fresh baby spinach in place of lettuce (with some ketchup, mustard, and tomatoes) and they were really good! You can add any toppings you like, pickles and the mayo and all that… but I don’t recommend cheese (or the mayo)… it just adds calories and I"m not sure if it’s tasty.

<o:p>

According to

sparkpeople.com, one 4 oz patty is about 181 calories (you can put in recipes there and it breaks down the nutrition. I love that site…)

. That’s not bad! Especially when regular ground beef burger can be 300 cals or more just for the meat! These turkey burgers are just SO flavorful and delicious, even my kids love them!!!!
