Life

So I’m writing this from my lovely, brand new laptop. It’s 17.3 inches of beautiful and fast as hell. I’m planning on attempting to sell my desktop and netbook on ebay (and possibly some other stuff that I don’t really use anymore). Hopefully people will buy my stuff and I can pay off the new computer asap.

I’m for the most part, recovered from my debacle of disease in the last month. I apparently picked up strep throat during my mono battle, but I finished the antibiotics this week. So: Kidney infection? Gone. Strep? Gone. Mono? Still get irrationally tired, but I can go about my day and I no longer feel like I’ve run a marathon in the last 24 hours. It’s nice to be able to walk around without my ankles and knees feeling like they’re on fire. Now I’m just dealing with some complications with the antibiotics in the lady parts, but I’ve almost gotten that under control, too.

Greg and I had planned on celebrating my new health (after waiting a week) with a night of alcohol and dancing (yes, my boyfriend goes dancing with me, be jealous), but now he’s sick. So instead we’ve decided to continue acting like an old couple and watching hockey on tv. His team isn’t in the playoffs, so I don’t see why we need to watch. But whatever, it could be worse. Hopefully we can go out and make complete fools of ourselves by dancing in public next weekend.

One week left of classes and then exams. Then I’m done with my third year of graduate school. Hopefully I’ll be submitting my second paper by the end of the next two weeks. I’m starting a random new project so I can get my ass to New Orleans later this year for a conference. I’ll also be submitting my master’s thesis in the next month or so and I’ll have to "defend" it. So I’ll have a masters. Yay. My mentor also agreed that I should start my written comprehensives some time in July or August. Scary, but exciting. It’s basically the same time line we set out last year, but I really didn’t actually think it was going to happen on time.

We moved the cat the Greg’s last weekend. It’s weird that she’s here instead of at my apartment, but I guess I’ve only slept in my own bed one night this week. I’ll be permanently moving in some time next month, so that’s exciting. As nervous as I was about it, I’m pretty sure we’re going to be fine living together. More than fine. It kind of blows my mind that he might be the last roommate I ever have. But I guess we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it. Penny’s pretty happy about living here, but she was definitely confused when we brought her here.

Work has been… Interesting. The other graduate student has pissed off basically everyone else in the lab by being an arrogant ass. I don’t know why I feel so excited about that, but I do.

Random question, don’t know if any of you can answer: I’m going to a conference in NY at the end of next month and the day after it’s over my mom is having my sister’s baby shower in Philadelphia. Will I be able to get reimbursed for travel to and from the conference if I fly into Philly?
