I feel bad for corn farmers.

I came to this conclusion as I was munching away on my breakfast watching tv.  One of those obnoxious pet food commercials that condemn pet owners for feeding their pets things like ‘corn by product’. Fine. I get it, you would expect the first ingredient to be some form of meat or something. But then this particular food brand went on to tell you that their pet food is made with whole grains and organic vegetables, and all that. They possibly mentioned meat, but to be honest I wasn’t paying full attention and the whole grains (or was it wheat, specifically?) is what caught my attention. What is so wrong with corn? I mean, the by product part sounds a little sketchy, but whatever. First it was high fructose corn syrup targeted as the devil — which really isn’t that bad for you if you only have it sometimes — and now pet food? I love my cat, I do, but I’m not about to start spending $9 on a bag of food because I’m afraid of corn. Unlike the high fructose corn syrup scare, which indicated consuming this would give you cancer or something, there is no evidence saying this ‘corn byproduct’ is inherently bad for your pet. Whole grains and wheat are good for humans, but can we really insinuate the same effects in our carnivorous friends? No. But maybe I don’t know something. Or maybe corn farmers really are evil.

I wish I could say that I’d go buy a bunch of corn to support these poor souls. But I really don’t enjoy corn. At all.

Corn fucking rules. I don’t think HFC is something we should all be consuming ad nauseum, but I feel that way about most processed foods that deter from the natural state of the progenitor plant/thing. But corns are whole grains, too, you discriminatory bastard commercial!
