the employment world sucks
and the government employment word in particular…
so Jess finished her CDA classes… and calls the main branch in Columbus to say come give me my test… their response "we’ll see you between January & March" so she’s been busting her ass to get this done only to have another roadblock thrown in her path.. this frustrates me as much as it does her.. because until they give her the test, grade it & inspect her house … I have no job with her… and the person who has to give this test to her… oh they aren’t coming from Columbus…they have to come down from D.C. … insanity
so I’ve been filling out all kinds of applications around town and even in Athens & Logan… for most of them I’m over qualified because of my associate degree.. and others I’m under qualified because I don’t have my bachelor degree as of yet… to get the degree I need a job to pay for classes… can’t get a job because I don’t have a degree..
seriously? WTF?
and did you know I’m over qualified for McDonald’s and burger king? yeah that’s right I’m too smart… WTF? are they seriously degrading their current employees by saying this? of course they didn’t come out and say that… but they asked why I haven’t gotten a job in my field… well the last time I looked.. my degree was an associate in business management… positions applied for… manager… of a business.. doe these not go together?
so that is where i am right now… in employment limbo until I finish my degree… or until the government decides Jess has waited long enough…
school of course is still on hold because of the lack of funding… I’ve gotten so desperate I’ve even applied to walmart… not that it’s a bad job.. just located away from town… and the way they work people I won’t have much face time with the kiddo… in the mornings before she goes off to school… and maybe a weekend…
to top all of this off… there were tornados in our area thursday.. The Plains is a wreck… Nelsonville was lucky in a sense… it hit the back roads taking 15 houses.. no where near me… then moved on to The Plains and Athens… one business in Athens is completely flat now… insanity on the weather level…
so where does that tie into the job hunt, well it’s a local disaster so some people might not be hiring for a while… that’s how it ties in.. but I’m hoping there is a job somewhere for me… financially we can’t go on like this… I feel horrible that mom is having to work overtime because we need the money… but in the last week I’ve but in for 15 different jobs… there has to be one there somewhere for me right?
anyway hope you all are doing better than I am in the job market… other parts of life are actually normal… well as normal as they can be for me lol!
more later

So wait, are you applying for gov jobs or Jess? And are you applying for “line” jobs at the fast food places or management? I’d say that, for the FF world, leave out your degree if you’re not going for management. If it’s state gov I got nothin, but if it’s Fed, ya, it’s a fight, even for me as a current Fed AND a veteran. But for Fed jobs tho, keep plugging away. Eventually consideration comes.

I think perhaps that says something about the education/intelligence of the people running McDonalds. Besides, there are plenty of people with bachelor degrees working at McDonalds and the like. It seems the market is flooded…around here, anyway.

You can’t get hired at Fast Food because they know you are far too smart to stay at a job like that forever. When they hire people with no education the company knows they will work there FOREVER because they CAN’T go anywhere else.

I once landed a kick ass job by just dropping off a resume and then calling HR. they pulled my resume and there were positions available. They didn’t advertise at all. Drop off your resume at places that you would LIKE to work at. Throw positive energy into the world. Something has to come back, right?
