I am proud of myself!

I tend to be a bit of an introvert. I don’t usually just walk up to people I don’t know and can sometimes be awkward getting to know people.

When we moved to WA I signed up my youngest for pre-school and offered to volunteer on the board of directors as a fundraising director.

Tonight we had an event that was my idea, my planning, and my doing. We had a fundraising night at Menchie’s frozen yogurt.

It was nerve wracking at first. It was snowing heavily, it was heavy winds, it was freezing, and dark out. A half hour into our fundraiser NO ONE had showed up. I pictured myself having to face the board and say that we had not raised anything beyond what my family had bought. Then the snow stopped, the wind stuck around, the clouds cleared the sky made way for sunshine and clear skies. Then people started coming.

I was nervous to approach people who were not with our school and ask them if they would mind mentioning our school to help with our proceeds. The first three people were Nos and one woman was very bristled, rude, and didn’t even let me finish what I was saying. It costs no one a dime to mention us, it’s just 20% of proceeds from sales that mention our school. Getting those rejections out of the way helped me in asking more and more people. What was the worst they could say? No? I had already been told no three times. By the end of the night we had about 100-130 people who mentioned our school. Half were from our school and half weren’t. I had improved word of mouth for the school and I raised funds. Only 4 or 5 board members showed up out of 22. I was disappointed more of the board didn’t show up but I did good and I’m proud of me!

It must have been a lot of work planning the fundraiser, that’s awesome that it was a success! Congrats!
