X-Men Movies

I first heard about X-Men when its first movie was released in summer of 2000.  Curious, I checked it out and liked it, because it taught good lessons and had a happy ending though I was a little upset of the traditional sexist role of the helpless female being rescued by a handsome male.

The following months, I heard about the X-Men cartoons that had been around for quite some time, and in 2003, I went to see X2: X-Men United.  It had a good story with more characters introduced, but I didn’t like how one of the characters drowned at the end, which nearly drove me to tears.

I was happy to hear that she would be revived in X-Men 3: The Last Stand, which turned out to be a disappointment.  It had a poor plot with deaths of too many good characters.  That character had died in X-Men 2, only to come back to life and die again in X-Men 3.

The only good thing that came out of the X-Men movie series, especially the third part was humans and mutants learning to co-exist.  It may not seem realistic, but it’s a good influence to society in that it encourages people to accept differences and work toward making it reality.

Interesting to see the perspective of someone with no prior knowledge of the characters. I’ve been reading Marvel Comics since I was 7 and I feel the same way about the movies are you do (although I wasn’t surprised by Jean’s death, she seems to die and return every couple years in the comics).
