Super Bowl Sundays

People usually make too big a deal over the Super Bowl with too many announcements, advertisements, and celebrations over such an event which should not happen. All the Super Bowl does is create crowds, traffic, parking problems, and other problems in life. Maybe it’s because I’m not interested in sports, but the sports I really can’t stand are football, boxing, wrestling, hunting, and fishing.

Actually, I never understood why it’s called football when players are just carrying the ball across the field as they wrestle with others. It should be called bullyball or wrestleball. Soccer should be called football. I guess that is why they call it American football.

Maybe it’s due to my bad experiences and impressions on football players, boxers, and wrestlers, but I find many of these athletes rude, arrogant, improper, self-centered, narrow-minded, and mean. They just don’t seem to know if they’re playing a game or not, and just use their violent sports skills on people everywhere. Many crimes are committed by them. For example, at a summer program years ago, players from a football camp stayed in the same dorm. They broke rules, pushed us aside, and even tried to trip us.  The staff of our program chased them everywhere, and said they were "jerks."

Maggie Fitzgerald in Million Dollar Baby was an exception, but she faced many opponents who tried to hurt her on purpose. Her last one was almost disqualified, and seriously wounded her. I had not been interested in watching a movie with boxing until I was repeatedly reminded of its Oscar nominations. This is another movie that doesn’t deserve it.

I never understand why hunting and fishing are sports. Killing animals for food is one thing, but for entertainment and vanity is another. I get upset when I see animal parts being used as trophies or real fur coats being sold and worn. I also can’t stand people injuring fish by having them bite the hook, reeling them in, and throwing them back into the water. Except for food, hunting and fishing should be considered crimes, not sports.

I guess one reason I can’t stand the American football, boxing, wrestling, hunting, and fishing is because I hate most of the athletes of those sports. These sports encourage bullying, human and animal abuse, injuries, and death. These sports should not receive fame and recognition, but should instead be forbidden. There are so many other safer and less violent sports, so I find these dangerous ones unnecessary.
