Placing Myself in Stories
If you could place yourself in any novel, what would it be?
Everytime I read a book, watch a movie or show, or play a video game, I often want to intervene in the story. When I see the good characters struggling or suffering, I just feel their pain and wish I could do something to end it. I also start to write Mary Sues in my mind, and wonder where in the story I would come in, what I would do, and how the story would change. This means, if I could place myself in a novel or any form of story, I would place myself in all of them.
I guess this is another evidence of my ego. I’m self-centered to imagine myself and no one else in the stories. My plans to assist the "good guys" are probably out of selfishness: to be liked, rewarded, and seen as good, as well as avoid punishments. It could also be I just want to ease my own pain of seeing others suffer. People say, "It’s just a ____," but still they could seem real. In fact, they are real in thier own fantasy world and in people’s imaginations. Good creators make the story seem real and draw audiences into it.
