November 2008 Wildfires
Just when I get my midterm papers done, I woke up several times Saturday morning, November 15, 2008, to find it always dark. When I finally got out of bed to prepare for classes, I smelled smoke and knew something was wrong. I looked out the window to see dark gray smoke and very little sunshine, so I checked the internet for news. Just as I suspected, Southern CA is having fires again, and they were in Sylmar, which is in th San Fernando Valley area. I then turned on the TV to hear that a fire that had started in Corona had spread westward to Yorba Linda and Anaheim Hills.
When I got to school, people were talking about the fires. In between classes, we watched the news on the clinic TV to learn that the fires had spread to Brea. Later, I heard about fires in Montecito of Santa Barbara County, too.
We just had fires last month, and now we have them again. We’ve been having too many fires the past few years, and too many people have been injued or made homeless. I myself was making evacuation plans in case the fires moved soutwest to my area.
Fortunately, it wasn’t as dark Sunday, Novmber 16. I guess the some of the fires had cleared, but I heard they moved northwest to Diamond Bar. I really hope everyone else in the fire areas are safe, and none have to evacuate.
