Fixed Computer and New Hard Drive

I eventually refused the file retrieval for my damaged external hard drive, because $350 was a ripoff.  The Geek Squad headquarters also told me that since I had so many files on my damaged hard drive, they would have to back up them up on a new external hard drive for an additional $45.  They said that DVDs would have cost me more.  With about half the total price, I could get an even better external hard drive.

On Monday, November 17, my computer problems of Windows Explorer failing to open, Internet Explorer getting stuck, and the computer resetting or logging out without my consent began occuring more often.  The next day, the frequency of those problems greatly increased, and I couldn’t even really check e-mail or do anything on the internet.  You could say that I eventually couldn’t use my computer.  Fortunately, I managed to order a new external hard drive online and back up many important programs and files onto CDs and DVDs before taking it to the technological service section at Fry’s Electronics on Wednesday, November 19.

They managed to restore Windows Vista in about an hour, so I spent the next two days reinstalling and copying programs and files from my CDs and DVDs.  My new external hard drive arrived the following week, so I managed to copy files from the family computer at my parents’ house over the Thanksgiving weekend.  This hard drive has much more storage space than my old one, but I’m still going to back up files on DVDs.

Now I still have many anime and manga files to redownload.  Unfortunately, I can’t find some of them anymore.  Downloading also takes forever.  All those files I taken me many months to download, and I had gotten most of them when I only had clinic to worry about.  Now with busy classes, I don’t have much time.  Besides, downloading also slows down my internet connection, hindering my online activities, so at times I have to take a break from it for awhile.
