Theyre Just Doing Their Jobs
“They’re just doing their job,” people reply when they hear a complaint about punishments and unfair actions. Well, it is easy for these people say so because they did not face the pain and injustices. In a way, they are hypocrites, because if they were the victims, they would be complaining and not say “they’re just doing their job.” It could also be those nonvictims don’t like listening to complaints, or are like those unfair people, so they say so because they feel the victims are talking about them.
Those who issued the punishments or anything unpleasant often cross the line. Many people, especially authorities, say "Im just doing my job" as an excuse for their power abuse. Sure, they are doing their jobs, but not correctly, responsibly, or fairly. They single people out, scapegoat, play favorites, violate rights, and use rude and mean tones, words, and gestures for their pleasure and to make their jobs easier.
A good example of this is police officers. They are always singling people out and scapegoating. When they see someone speeding, but can’t catch them, they just take it out on the next driver they see. When everyone is doing the same thing, they discrimminate and pick out women and minorities. If the defendants argue, they give their cliche response, "I was just doing my job." Certainly, because they received the unfair benefits.
When my friends and I complain about the injustice to other people, we receive that same response of "they’re just doing their jobs," because they were not the ones who were cited. If they had received tickets or been hassled by the police, they wouldn’t be saying that. Maybe they are as unfair as the police.
I’ve faced much injustice in school with that same excuse, especially with biased teachers. I made the same mistake as other people, but the teacher punished only me, and it’s that same "doing the job" response from some people. That’s why when I was unfairly banned from TheOneRing.Com, I did not inform those who I knew were likely to give that "doing their job" excuse. Some of those I informed already said, "They’re doing what’s best," though they agreed about the unfairness.
