Summer Daydreams.

I can’t wait for summer to come; it’s the most intoxicating of seasons with it’s hypnotic ways. All senses are heightened; sweet summer smells, soft and sticky heat blanketing your skin, vivid colors everywhere, plush grass and sun-baked sand beneath your bare feet. There’s something about summer that makes memories stick in your mind like clips out of a film.

Once summer arrives I’ll be back in Pennsylvania with the Nittany mountains encompassing me. I’ll be home.

I close my eyes, and I envision what summer is going to be like, and I can already see it like a painting before my eyes.

Camouflage pants, olive drab tank top, utility vest carrying my CO2 and pods of paintballs, my A5 in tow, and my combat books encrusted with mud, grass, and dirt. It’s a hot sweaty day, but I have water. I’m not giving up, not this year. I’m not going to play like such a girl, even though I’m the only one here. This is my year. I remember the way I was last year, to be honest I was terrified, but the long seasons between has made me miss it. I can’t wait to have my gun in my hands and have a try yet again.

Then there’s going for walks, having picnics in the park, and reading books under the shade of trees. Sitting in silence and basking in the moment, as it won’t last forever. Then, just before the sun goes down, we’ll hop in the car and drive with no destination in mind. When the stars are bright and twinkling in the sky, we’ll head back. It’s just what we do.

On scalding hot days, when the heat becomes too much to bear, we’ll pack up a few things and head to the beach. The cool water feels good against our skin and makes our hair stand on end, but it’s the perfect cure for heat-sickness. Kids giggling around us, and the sun beats down on our faces, but there’s always a happiness within our hearts.

This summer comes a new experience – going to the track. I imagine standing in the sunlight, hearing the engines rumbling on the track, and keeping my eyes open for Johnny. My thoughts immediately go to warmth on my skin with a gentle breeze, my skirt swaying in the wind and blowing my hair into my eyes. I can already feel my adrenaline rushing at all the excitement. I can’t wait to share this with Johnny, as this is another passion of his.

Warm, rainy days will come and go, and the weather won’t always be so beautiful. Those days excite me just as any other summer day. On those days, Johnny and I can curl up on the couch and watch movies and cuddle, and while he relaxes or even play his game, I’ll cook up a nice little dinner for the both of us.

There will be days where Johnny spends hours outside working on his Jeep, or any other project that he has started. On those days I’ll do my own thing, crafting, reading, cooking, working, whatever, and when I see him next he’ll have the most amazing smell on his skin. Sun mixed with a metallic scent, oil, dirt, and sweat; it’s my favorite smell ever… it’s my Johnny. I can’t wait to actually see the progress he makes on his project, instead of seeing it through pictures. It’s all so exciting.

Summer means happiness! I couldn’t be more thrilled.

Love this entry, sadly we never get summers like that in Scotland lol!

I love this…and feel the same way about summer for my own reasons. I’m in California and now I want to go to Pennsylvania. It’s not so far away, you know. Summer that is…

You certainly make it sound enticing! I’m so happy for you, that you get to be with him in your happy place this summer! Hooray! :]
