Meet Milo and Silas.

Yesterday, two men joined my life. Yes, they’re a little hairy, quite small, and happen to be brothers… but they are completely adorable and they have melted my heart.

This is Silas.

This is Milo.

That’s how far I got into this entry before I looked over at Silas and noticed that he didn’t seem quite right. He had thrown up for the second time in less than an hour, but this time it had just seem to leak right out of his mouth. He had turned his head, not really acknowledging the fact that he had just thrown up. So, I went over to check on him. What I found was heart-breaking… My little Silas was like a rag doll, he was barely responsive to my touch, and he started to have diarrhea when I picked him up. Immediately, my heart sank, and I rushed him over to the emergency vet less than a block away. Upon my arrival, they took him right back, and I didn’t hear back from anyone for a while. Twenty minutes later, maybe more maybe less, someone finally came over to tell me that the doctor was in surgery and when the surgery was complete, he would take a look at Silas.

When he was done looking him over, the news wasn’t good news. The vet had said that the condition Silas was in was not hopeful, but they could do tests, give him fluids, and do what they could before he would need to be transferred in the morning. As it was, I had no clue how I was going to pay for the care they were giving Silas, but I wanted to try. Seeing my little beebee so helpless just crush me. After some more discussion with the vet and one of the nurses, we had decided that putting Silas to sleep was in his best interest.

So yesterday evening, barely over 24 hours since Silas entered my life, his little soul left this world. I brought him home in a little box, and Johnny and I buried him in a butterfly garden in a nearby park.

The whole experience has been nothing less than heartbreaking. Milo misses his brother, I can tell that much.

Silas, my little guy, may you rest in peace. </3
