If I were a crayon…

I had my kiddos pick a construction paper outline of a crayon.   Their assignment was to write a story, as if they were the crayon.   I thought I would share some of the gems here.  Spelling will obviously be edited, for the non teachers out there.  Although in some cases the spelling is just too good so I’ll put it in parenthesis.

Brown crayons:

"I am used for a tree branch (brananch) and a brown car and a brown person or a pair of pants or a shirt or a brown book or a house or shows or some words or a eyeball (I ball) or paper.  A chocolate cake or a pennies or some chicken.  A meteor (medeyer) is brown."

"If I was brown I would say Yes Yes Yes! It is my turn.  I will live in a color box with all other browns and all other colors to be my friends."

"I am the brown.  I will (well) draw on my paper.  I will draw a brownie (browny) because I am brown.  The only (olly) reason (rezon) I pick brown. because It is my favorite colors and ckedy (no clue what that is) is brown too and a pennies and  a ice cream and a monkey and a football and a nest and a snake and a horse and hay and hat and backpack and me."

"I am a brown.  I would be happy because I will color things brown like a ball.  I  will be extremely happy and sad too. My days will be happy with my friend.  Every time I write on paper I will have brown on it.  And a big hand will come to me and I will be sad because a big hand will come to me and when they will get me they will color and it will show brown.  And they will said this color is beautiful."

Orange Crayon:

"I am a orange.  I am good to use for a orange flower or a car or a bracelet.  When a person come and gets me I hope they make a orange folder with me.  A purse would be nice.  A airplane too.  Theres so many things I  could be since I am a orange crayon.  Because I am a crayon and people are people I’m scared (skud) of people(pepol).  I wish I was yellow so I could color a star."

Yellow Crayons:

"A yellow is the same as a yellow fish and yellow banana (bunanula) and a yellow duck in a lake and Sponge Bob is yellow and paper is yellow too and polka dots (pockuldots) are yellow too.  Name tags are yellow too.  Backpacks are yellow too.  Books can be yellow too. Ferris wheels can be yellow too.  Africa (AFricKa) can probably be yellow and fish can be yellow like a gold fish and a horse can be yellow too and a toy clock can be yellow too."

"I would (wood) draw on blank paper and draw (drall) lightning.  I would feel ecstatic.  I live in the color box with the othere color.  I will feel happy (hoppy).  And if somebody pick me up I will draw a yellow apple.  And I would draw some yellow pears. Yum!"

Purple Crayons:

"When I am out of a coloring box I might be colored on a piece (pese) of paper.  When I am color purple I would be the perfect shade of purple.  When I am color purple and if somebody picked me up out of a coloring box I will be excited.  When I am a color I will be scared if somebody picks me up.  When I am a color I can be happy when I am a color.  When I am a color I can color good.  When I am a color I like to color smart."

"And then some purple gold-fishes fly in the air with some big old (biggo) sharks eat-ing them in the air. Say I believe I can fly.  Just like in the sky.  Like on Ice Age.
When I am used I will draw a girl named Ms. A- with a purple shirt and a rubberband that is purple and a purple belt and a purple cup on her hat with purple polka dots on it like 100!  If I was used again I then I will draw a purple shoe with a purple monster living in there and I will tap the girl on the back and tell her to put me back in the box because I will be tired because I drawed a lot  ’cause I’m tired but I will still draw!  And then after that I w ill draw a purple underwear (undur-wear)."

"I am a purple.  A bike is purple.  I never see the sun.  I don’t know what color.  I am a purple color.  Colors don’t talk.  I can’t talk and crayons cannot talk.  I am a color.  Colors are cool.  They are not cool.  They are very cool.  I think that it is super cool!"

"I am a purple crayon.  I can draw a car.  I can draw a purple shirt and pants and socks and a flower and house and words.  I would be ecstatic if a first grader used me.  So excited I would blow up."

 

There you have it folks.  If my first graders were crayons…. 😉  I have to say that in the majority of these the basic words were spelled correctly.  Although we do have some punctuation issues.  Like too much (which I excluded) or a complete lack thereof.
