I did not think it would affect me so completely.  My heart hurts for her, and I find myself still denying the possibility that a child can be taken so cruelly. 

She came to school on Friday, dressed as Strawberry Shortcake for our book parade.   At that point it was a "she’ll come to school when she feels up to it"   That is no longer an option.  She is unable to move her arms and legs, and has deteriorated considerably.
