Sensible Tag (Guess I’m it)
Wren has tagged me with her sensible survey. She did this clear back on the 21st of June, but I’m a bit slow at getting around to things in here, so….here goes.
Things that help to calm me down, listed in order of senses:
Sight: My baby Icarus… nuff said.
Sunsets, I like way the colors almost blend like a rainbow, with deep dark purple in the sky above, then blue and green…etc. (I’d probably like sunrises too but that requires getting up entirely too early in the morning).
A clear starry night…sometimes I can just lay on the ground and look up at the stars, imagining that I’m floating my way up to them.
Sound: Baby giggles!!! I don’t think anyone can listen to a baby giggling and not giggle themselves (unless they have serious problems).
Music! Music speaks to me soooo much. I can generally tell you when a song was popular by how it spoke to me at that time. Whenever I’m down or angry, or happy, I listen to music. When I’m angry, I listen to it loud and strong…the longer I listen, the more I turn it down until I’ve been able to get whatever it was bothering me out of my system.
A good thunderstorm….I love listening to the thunder and rain. When I was young my parents used to sit with us during thunderstorms and say ooo’s and aaah’s at the sound of thunder, I’m sure that’s where I picked it up. My dad and I would also sit in the car sometimes and listen to the rain hitting the roof. I could sleep there if it weren’t for fear of some whacko showing up in the middle of the night….lol
Touch: We’re back to the baby Icarus again. It seems funny to me that I don’t like to scratch people’s backs or rub them or brush their hair (but I love mine brushed), but I can sit there a pet my cat for hours (well, maybe not hours). What is it about petting an animal that is so calming? What is it about hearing your cat pur that causes such satisfaction?
As mentioned above, having my hair brushed! I could sit for hours and let someone brush my hair. I love it so much that I even allow my 3 yr. old grandson brush my hair occasionally (I know, desperation).
Smell: This one is tougher…not sure. I know I like the smell of rain. When it rains I like to open the windows and drink in the odor. I’m sure there are other scents that calm me, but right now, I can’t think of a one.
Taste: Another hard one. There are many tastes that I like, but one’s that calm me down?….that’s harder to define. I will have to consider this one for a bit and get back with you. Maybe a nice Fountain Blue coke….those are pretty good and I do like to get those on particularly bad days.
Ok, so Battle-axe & Harleydragon….TAG, YOU’RE IT……what are some things that help to calm you down
I’m with you on the smell of rain and the thunderstorm thing. 🙂 RYN: You won. Now get cracking!! 😉 ~

Lilacs. . .you like lilacs. And freshly baked rolls, when the turn out good. And clean laundry. And just a little of your flavored creamer. And you like buttered popcorn you cooked yourself. And crab or tomato salad. And chocolate-chip cookie dough. And a good philladelphia creamcheese cherry cheesecake. And sardines in tomato sauce on saltines when you’re pregnant.
