Steve

“Once in your life you find someone, who will turn your world around, bring you up when you’re feeling down.” Such a wonderful line from the song Heaven by Bryan Adams. Every time I hear that song I think about Steve. I miss him a lot. We had so many wonderful times. He’s the type of friend that isn’t there all the time, just when I really need him the most. There was a time in my life where I felt so alone. Jess and I weren’t speaking. I was many miles away from family. He found me online one night. We started talking and our friendship blossomed from there. Every night we would talk online. Eventually we started sending letters and talking on the phone. I would get home from work at 10 every night and call him. We would talk to 3 or 4 in the morning long distance. My mother screamed about the phone bill but I didn’t care.

Steve always had a way of making me feel better. He always told me to look at the positive of every situation. Sure my life might be bad now, but it will get better. If I hadn’t been so depressed I never would have met him. Besides there are many people out there who have it worse than me.

He came into my life at exactly the right time. Even though he was a 12 hour drive away in Boston, it didn’t matter. Through distance we created a great friendship. I thought he was the greatest. Then one day he gave me one of the biggest shocks of my life. He decided he was going to come visit me in Pittsburgh.

It was April, during the hockey playoffs, and he was coming to visit for the weekend. I was so nervous. We had never met, only talked online and over the phone. Jess and I had made up and were friends again. We wanted to take him out and show him the city, since it was his first visit. He left Friday after his last class and arrived at 2 in the morning. When he showed up, I felt like I had known him forever. Seeing him face to face was no different than talking to him on the phone. We stayed up all night just talking and goofing off.

The next day we went out to Robert Morris College for a trading card show. He bought me a few Matthew Barnaby cards, and himself a box of SP Authentic Hockey, which is my favorite. He even left me help him open them. He gave me a Mario Lemieux card, which I thought was really sweet, cause he knew how much I loved Mario.

We watched the Pens play Buffalo in the second round of the playoffs. He was rooting for my Pens, even though he is a Bruins fan. Jess called and she wanted to meet Steve. So we went and picked up her and John and went out. We took Steve to Eat N Park, since he has never been there. Then we took him up to Mt. Washington, because it has the best view of the city. After that we couldn’t think of anywhere else to go. It was 3 in the morning so we decided to go goof off at Wal Mart. It was fun, we almost got kicked out.
