Designer Clothes Hanging On my Clothesline
Finally I went to the bank to switch some money around. How I wish I could slow time down a bit. The last meeting I had with my investment guy at Fidelity I had some recommendations made for doing some trades drawn up. I had way too much sitting in a money market account paying 1.5% . I went to access that trade information this morning only to find it had expired. It is only good for 30 days. The original information was sent out in late May! It seems like it was yesterday.
E-Bay nailed me again! A fantastic whistle sign was listed with a local pick up only. This thing is quite large, but it was stated the pick up was located in Clifton Forge, VA. I contacted the seller stating how I will be in that area in early September, could I do a pick up then? He replied there would be no problem. Using auction sniper with a top bid of $405.95 I was able to snag the thing at $400.00 which is pretty much the going rate for this kind of thing.
Working out the payment and pick up details I was informed it had been moved to Huntington, WV for pick up! This is not on my way home and way off the route from Clifton Forge, VA. I suppose I could have raised a stink, but I’ll just live with the change of route. Mileage wise it adds over 100 miles of additional driving.
I’m sitting on my hands in a fantastic fire hydrant is listed on E-bay in Ohio. It is similar to two I already own, so I’m taking that as I sign I realize I’m NOT a hoarder!
To prove I’m serious I did up a screen shot of the listing. I’m headed to south east PA in September, but Akron, Ohio is WAY out of my way. It is so tempting though…the Chapman Valve “Snowflake” is one of my favourite hydrant designs..
The club got sucked into putting on another “learn to row” to cover a number of folks who missed the last one. I’m not encouraged. One poor kid can not swim. All our members must pass a swimming test so we can be covered under our insurance. He told one of the members he could not swim as he was waiting to jump into the pool!
Learning to swim was just a given growing up. I had to take swimming lessons at the YMCA. The water in that pool circa 1962 was never heated: it was so cold. We used to huddle around the radiators to try and keep warm in the winter months. I have never been a strong swimmer, but I can move in the water if need be.
Another guy was complaining about the different row times we have listed did not fit his schedule. As a club we have never offered more rowing times than we are now.
I really feel for those who have to deal with the public on a daily basis. It is all I can do to practice self control and not lose it when dealing with these people.
Not much else going on. I’m all done in after the brick projects. The days are heating up along with the increasing humidity. It has been so wet and rainy the past few months. My back yard grass is growing like mad. It was just mowed a few days ago and it needs anther going over.
I’m trying to get back into working out on a more regular basis at the Y. Th
ese past few months have been pretty “hit or miss”.
Monday was my shopping day. About once every two months I get to the thrift store, Hell-Mart, and Sam’s Club.
I scored great at the thrift store. In the evening I lounge in flannel PJ bottoms. These have been in short supply at the thrift store lately. I’ve had to cut up two PJ bottoms in the past few weeks they had gotten so ratty. They make great rags though.
Anyway… I got a pair of Ralph Loren Polo bottoms for 74¢ and a pair of Nautica Bottoms for $1.25. Imagine designer clothes hanging on my clothesline!
Hell-mart was not that crowded. I really don’t buy that much from them grocery wise anymore. I don’t trust any of their meats except for the sealed stuff like bacon and sausage. I pretty much depend on Publix now for my food needs. I might pay a bit more, but it is worth not having the aggravation that goes into a Hell-Mart visit.
Sam’s was not bad either. Left there with cat litter and box wine! What a combination!!
Growing up in England and being a member of the generation I am, I learned to swim in school. The place where we swam–Public Swimming Baths— was indoors but not heated and was VERY heavily chlorinated. In order to get out “pass” grade, we had to show we could swim a length of the pool.

There is a Museum of Radio & Technology in Huntington you might find of interest if you’re in town on a day they’re open. http://www.ohio.edu/people/postr/mrt/

I am amazed at the number of people in my generation who cannot swim. What is wrong with parents? We took swimming lessons for years, and I enjoyed it when I was a kid, and I am glad I don’t have to learn as an adult! It is a life skill – how, in this day in age, are there still so many non-swimmers out there? Oh my, I see your bloomers out there on the line!! 😀

Nice flannels and great deal. I’ll cross my fingers that something about the extra 100 miles makes it worthwhile. A beautiful sight, a great restaurant…something like that.

Water’s not included in the hydrant price.

Art doesn’t know how to swim and it is a pain. I am determine that Ben learn to swim. He has been the hardest to teach of my three children. I believe it is a life skill. I’ve swam in some cold pools as a child. As for collecting, there is a fine line between that and hording. LOL!

Do you know how you crack me up? Spiffy designer clothes and at prices we can be green over! / The price of antiques fascinates me. Completely demand/market driven, aren’t they? Sometimes I see things being offered for so little I think it’s shameful. Which reminds me, would you mind revealing the shady stuff that goes on at Antiques Roadshow? You mentioned it once and I’ve been puzzling eversince.
