Someday our day will come, Beth Hart.

C and I had a bad feeling, both of us, about this upcoming Atlanta trip that was to be Monday (tomorrow) through Wednesday. We hadn’t told each other, but finally did, over lunch at Gail’s, our local "don’t look at the floor, but they have the BEST burgers" place in our rinky-dink little town we call home.

She said she had this gut feeling something was going to come along that would be costly – be it that the rental car would get damaged, or we’d get in a wreck, or the house would get broken into, something – she wasn’t sure what, and didn’t have the heart to tell me about this anxiety due to my grand desire to see Beth Hart live.

Beth Hart…I’ve been a fan since I saw her perform "LA Song" on Beverly Hills, 90210 (yes, admitted fan of that lovely teen soap)

She’s amazing, simply amazing. Passionate…incredible…I so wish I was going to be there on Tuesday night in Atlanta at Smith’s Olde Bar to see her live…finally.

Anyhow…I was having the same feeling about this trip, and I couldn’t put my finger on it as to why…but, I had a gut feeling something hinky would happen as well. C and I shared our concerns, and viola, the trip was cancelled that day. I managed to sell the tickets this week, car cancelled, friend visit cancelled (one I haven’t seen since 1996, which is also sad), hotel cancelled. Life, cancelled.

But, it turns out this was the right decision, to go with our guts. My tooth just had a temp crown put on and has been giving me fits on and off – I think part of it is related to my teeth clenching I do at night that I can’t seem to break (I chew through mouth guards like they’re candy), and the dentist doesn’t want to touch it now without my seeing a specialist (don’t put on a permanent $1,000 crown over a tooth that’s giving you fits – that’s not smart, and I agree) – so, I might need a root canal – there’s another $1,000. Part of the issue of not having a "real job" is not having "semi-real insurance". The stuff I do have at $20 a month covers basic x-rays and yearly cleanings, and that’s about it – it balances out. So, there’s the money to go to Atlanta…on top of that, Friday I started feeling crappy and by Friday night I couldn’t keep rice down. I’m doing better today, no more evacuations from both ends thus far, but I’m really, really sore and the idea of actually going to the Endodontist tomorrow pains me, so I cancelled that and will reschedule, too…so, I’m grateful we’re not headed to Atlanta tomorrow morning, unfortunately.

On a side note about Beth Hart – she rarely tours the U.S. – she has a huge following overseas, especially in the Netherlands area, and is always over there it seems, but not here. This was a rare chance to see her somewhere nearby that I didn’t have to fly to, and while C is not a Beth Hart fan, she agreed to actually come with me, and that was overly appreciated. She’s a good woman, and she knows it. ::smirk:: I’ve been a fan for over 20 years, and one of the days…one of these days, I will see Beth Hart live.

I have a bucket list of bands/singers I want to see live – Culture Club is on that list (I’ve seen Boy George live, 1995, Atlanta), but never Culture Club – and while there’s a reunion tour rumor he started a year or so ago, it’s not taken off yet…hopefully it will…their last reunion album was quite excellent…and I bet all of you reading probably had no clue about that, now did you? I was lucky enough to have the chance to see Cesaria Evora live, around 2001 I’d guess, in Miami, about 10 years before her death at the age of 70 – an incredible singer from Cape Verde, called "The Barefoot Diva". If you don’t know her and can appreciate music you don’t know the lyrics to because it’s in a language you don’t know, try it – her music is enchanting, and the first album of hers I ever owned is still my favorite, simply titled Cesaria. I found it in the bin of "no one wants these" promo’s at the Sam Goody I was working at (management level), and I took it home and it changed my musical life in such an amazingly positive way. She was magical – her music lives on.

Well, I guess I’ll leave it at this…and leave you with this most recent Beth Hart performance with Jeff Beck – if this doesn’t give you some respect for the woman, nothing will:
