ADD, Religion and Life

The world is making us all ADD, seriously.

Case in point on my above sentence. My "Sister from another Mister" (i.e. – we adopted each other when I was 24 and she was 20, we met in Tallahassee, Florida on my first day of work for The Musicland Group (Sam Goody)…the rest was history), has 2 daughters. S. is 2.5 and L. is almost a year. I haven’t seen L. since last August or so…but, S. is a good little kid. The problem with her? She’s been told (Sister has) that her daughter cannot pay attention, has her own agenda, and doesn’t want to follow along. Why? Let me tell you quite outright, though I won’t ever tell the Sister this:  When that kid was a baby they piped in music into her crib, into her stroller, into her baby seat, because she’d sleep with "noise on" – she’d fall asleep to noise of the T.V., etc. – and they thought this was "perfectly good and normal". IMHO that’s the BEST way to scramble a kids brain when they’re developing, don’t you think dear readers? …and people wonder why kids these days have to take anti everything pills just to get by…hell, half of us do (if not more, or should?) just to get through life.

Once upon a time it didn’t matter that you didn’t have 4 phones, 2 iProducts, 3 video game systems, a t.v. in every room, and computers to match each mood of the day…now it does – why is that?  It’s not just because we’ve become a product of society in that we’re TOLD to "buy buy buy" and so we do, but it’s because we feel like something is MISSING from our lives, so we fill that with crap.  Plastic crap and gadgets to keep us so busy we don’t realize somethings missing.

Then there are those of us who feel that something is missing so we have to correct it by going to Church, finding others of the like mind, and then going out and telling everyone how wrong they are for not being like US – the right ones.  What kind of b.s. is that?  It’s just one mind set over the other – they’re both so controlling in their own right.  You’re either too busy being controlled by your electronics or by your religion.

Case in point on this one…C’s mother has decided to disown her, once again, because C refuses to put up with her b.s. constant barrage of, "just walk away from the life you choose to lead, come home and be a WELS member again and worship God in the right way that HE wants (actually how I want you to be, but I don’t realize that I’m that controlling because I feel I’m speaking for God and that I’m doing what’s right because of how brainwashed I’ve become over the years…I preach hate and I feel that’s what I’m supposed to be doing, even though Jesus clearly tells me not to in the Bible, I’ll just ignore that as it doesn’t suit me or my plans for you), come home and repent and live your life as a single Christian Straight woman, it’s not a LIE! That’s who you really are, I know that you’re just choosing to live a life of sin!"  ::sigh::  Don’t you think for just a moment that if this is truly who your daughter was that she wouldn’t "choose" to live a life where she’s constantly subjected to ridicule, hatred and bigotry? If she was straight, don’t you think she’d do that in a heartbeat if she had to?  Yes, she would.  She’s told me as much – that if she could change how she was born, she would, TO PLEASE YOU.  Why do people feel they can control others so freely?  Because they can.  Because we let them get away with it.

We let the corporations get away with telling us we need a brand new car every two years, so we should lease them. We need brand new iProducts every new release so they can make money and we can be "up to date" on everything. We need to make everyone happy, including corporations, by doing what they want – why shouldn’t it be any different with Religion and God? Electronics are becoming our new God, and people are losing faith in themselves. What happened to living your life and being yourself and that was a proud, good thing? 

We need another Hippy Movement.

We need another group of people to break barriers and help others realize they don’t have to be a slave to Corporate Greed and Religion.

Everyone really just needs to learn to do something with their hands, to take back the day, to slow down and enjoy life and thank God for being alive, and let one another live.

Bigots need to bake some bread, the people who are on the receiving end of the bigotry really need to make some butter and jam, and everyone needs to meet in the middle over a campfire.  Life would be so much better if we could all just slow down, stop even for a few minutes, and realize we’re all in this together – and fighting is not the answer.

If everyone got rid of their electronics for a week, and had to interact with each other – how much better off would this world be?  So, so much better.

I’ll bake the bread if someone wants to bring over some jam.  I’m waiting, my door is open.  Even for C’s mom.  I think Jesus would approve.
