Renewal

This NoJoMo thing is starting to wind down.  Only 9 days left.  It doesn’t even seem like it’s been that long.  Although my entries have pretty much been crap, I’m happy I was able to pull them out of my butt like I did.  I wanted to do this to force myself to write a little bit every day.  If I want to take writing seriously, I’ll need to constantly practice, constantly try to focus my thoughts and feeling, however mundane or magnificent they may be.  Stephen King said, “Read and write four to six hours a day.  If you cannot find the time for that, you can’t expect to become a good writer.”  And although I don’t write or read nearly that much, NoJoMo has forced me to at least write more consistently.  I used to write only when the inspiration would strike but now I’m writing daily, whether I want to or not.  I’ve forced myself to make time, although I was busy, especially when I was busy with finals, and I really hope this experience will pour into the months ahead.  And although I might not update daily after NoJoMo is over, I hope to bust out my Word document with all of my ideas written down and work on those ideas a little bit each day.  Hopefully I can work my way up to those four to six hours that Mr. King recommended.  And although that’s not incredibly plausible while in school, now that I’m on break, I don’t have an excuse.

In other news, I’m so glad to be home.  My dad replaced my fan because before I left, it crapped out on me and the light wouldn’t come on when I pulled the cord.  It also has five blades instead of four so it really puts out some air.  It’s good for me, being all hot-natured and such.  Mom also replaced my sheets that I ruined with my zit cream.  That benzoyl peroxide is a good pimple zapper but it’ll stain your sheets up real good.  Mom also put up the Christmas tree and decorations yesterday.  She lit the fireplace this morning and we had breakfast in front of it’s toasty glow.  Homemade biscuits and coffee.  Two things that I love that I haven’t had since leaving for school.  It was nice.

In addition to the new sheets and new fan, we also have a new kitty.  Not officially but a stray cat slinked over to our house one day and just never left.  Mom calls her Elizabeth.  Samuel calls her his best friend.  When I came home I saw them sleeping together in Sam’s little doghouse.  It was basically adorable.  I’m glad she’s around ‘cause now Sam has someone to spend time with when my parents are at work and I’m at school.  Moses met her one time.  Mom had the door open when she was bringing in the groceries and Moses and Elizabeth met at the threshold. He took a good whiff of her and then ran away.

Mom said she was going to give her away but she never did.

Although I got plenty of sleep the night before I left for home and got plenty of sleep the night I came home, I’m still pretty exhausted.  Driving is just tiring, no matter how rested you were previously.  It usually takes me around a week to recover.  If I could, I’d probably sleep for two days straight.  And why shouldn’t I?  I don’t have anything else better to do.  As nice as it is to be home, it’s also incredibly boring.  But, compared to the stress of school, I’ll take boredom any day.
