We Didn’t, Did We?

We were young
But too youthful to appreciate it
We could have done anything
Save for what we wanted
We had opportunities
But we turned them all down
We had the whole world to explore
But we never went to town
What did we do instead?
I’m afraid that I can’t remember
No entries recorded
On the proverbial historical calendar
We could have done anything
But I wouldn’t choose to live my life over again
I may have regrets for what I didn’t do
But it still wouldn’t compel me
To do anything other than nothing
Repeating the same mistakes
Repeating unhistoric history
If we’d have wanted to have done all those things
Then we would have, wouldn’t we?
We had the chance to do those things
But we didn’t, did we?
