Something To Say

I want to be able to say that I love you and mean it
Not just for something to say
To stop the silence
From getting in the way

I want to feel the emotions behind the word
I’m not so keen on the abstracts
I don’t want to use it as a placeholder in my sentence
What would be the point in that?

But you, you don’t make me feel that way
At least you don’t anymore
I can’t pretend to forget to pretend
That I feel like I felt before

There should be a parting of the ways
Like the parting of the seas
I just need something to say
To cut the ties that bind you to me

It doesn’t have to be dramatic
Most gestures aren’t quite so
Some feelings leave as suddenly as they arrive
Due to a meaning we cannot know

I want to tell you I love you
But you deserve for me to mean it first
Otherwise I’d just be making a bad situation
A million times worse.
