Queen Of Comedy

I’m sorry that I don’t believe you
When you say nice things about me
I can’t believe you think them true
You must be auditioning to be the Queen of comedy

I know that it’s my lack of self-esteem talking
I just wish that I could shut it up and shut it out
But if there’s one thing that I can always believe in
Then it is my self-doubt.

I hope that I don’t leave you underwhelmed
By my lack of positive response
I’m grateful that you feel that way about me
I just don’t know how to respond

Other than in an unbelieving way
I’m an atheist where I’m concerned
I’d like to believe in me
But like a luddite, I can’t be turned.

So, if you’re the Queen of comedy
Then I must be the King of understating
I know which one of us I’d fall in love with
And which one of us I would be hating.
