The New Ride
I have not ridden my bicycle to work since they moved everyone in town to the new office about 5 miles away. Today I did. 25 minutes each way and not a bad ride. It has a lot more traffic than the old town neighborhoods rode through to the old office for 20 years, so I rode on the sidewalk practically the whole way. Even then the intersections are bad because I just don’t trust people to see a bike.
So there it was.

I’m like you, I don’t trust people to see a bike. Luckily I live beside a large (large for this small country) forest full of cycle paths so I no longer need to go into traffic. Of course it helps that I’m now retired and no longer have to go to work. <{:0)

RYN: Boxer, in the life of a retiree every day is nice. Apart, that is, from the days when you don’t feel so good or have to go see the doc or be rushed to hospital in a cardiac emergency or … But, hey, those days are pretty nice too cos even on those days you’re still a part of it … the show … and as they say, the show must go on! So here’s to the show. 🙂 <{:0)

It’s good that you don’t trust people to see a bike. I never do.

Regarding your note about knowing the ballot, my guess is, not many. I have the feeling that many if not most voters are like Sarah Palin, whose foreign-policy knowledge and experience stems from being able to see Russia from her kitchen window. That four-vote squeaker from two years ago sold me on not missing an election. Her Highness is facing a squeaker, too.

Just checking in on ya! Glad you could still ride a bike! Smart to watch out for people. I just saw a video on TV of a guy riding a bike & some older man in a suit jetted out from between 2 cars…wasn’t even on a crosswalk..& the guy on the bike knocked him over. The old guy was OK & got up…the biker said something about he wasn’t on the crosswalk & the old guy agreed & said he was going th wrong way anyway..or something like that. The old guy “took responsibility” of the crash anyway. the biker was OK. It was really sort of funny but that’s b/c everyone was OK.

ryn “Land sakes Pa!” LOL! that is so cute! The closest I come to backseat driving is to say, “Why are we going this way?” I figure if I at least understand what he’s thinking I can live with it better. If it starts getting on my nerves, I just close my eyes and think about something else. I don’t backseat drive because it only gets me yelled at.

Here, in Sacratomato, the bike riders act as though the car drivers should know exactly where every bicycle is, even when it is on the wrong side of the street or low to the ground (recumbent). We are not air traffic controllers. We have no sophisticated radar. My Schwinn is still at the repair shop. I hope to be riding again soon.
