DC trip news

I spent three days this week going to Washington DC to lobby our congressman and senator for the USPS. The big issue we talked about was our opposition to cutting service from 6 to 5 days a week. I don’t think our mail senders nor our mail receivers want this cut and I know the country doesn’t need 40,000 layoffs right now.

The second issue was the way our retirement and retirees health care cost are charged to the USPS budget. It is not being done right. We are required to pre-fund our retirees projected health care expenses in a way that none of our competitors do and none of the government does. We are having to pay the US government $Billions each year for this and we have paid it for 3-35 years. It has never been right, but now it is impossible to keep doing it with the loss of business from the Internet and the supposedly over recession.

I so need a Dell Streak. People were opening up netbooks and surfing on their smartphones and I was staring my worthless, unusable, cumbersome laptop.

I like getting away and seeing new stuff, but my body is not so happy with it as it would have been 20 years ago. So, what else is new?

My right knee is not healing. It’s not so bad, but it’s not right. The bottom of my right foot has something wrong, probably fasciitis. My right shoulder has the same bursitis for 20+ years. My new shoes reminded me this week that my spinal disc bulges don’t like new shoes. My eating weird stuff at the wrong times in DC and sitting for hours in a plane and on buses left me very happy to be back home.

Kathy has been oddly pleasant to me. She looks especially pretty this week. Please don’t tell her I wrote that. It will sound like I like her and I don’t. You know I don’t like girls. AT ALL!….Could you ask her for me if she will go to a movie sometime? Oh, forgot. We did that today. How to Train a Dragon (sans 3D) was OK). The surprise was that it was for third graders and there was not a single surprise in the whole movie. That can be nice, though.

Later.

Cutting service from six to five days seems a bit wrong-headed when you consider that email runs seven days a week.

Very interesting! Sorry about your diet – traveling does that.

Guess maybe next trip you should take a good book to read while others are on their expensive toys.

Hey, that sounds like as good an excuse as any to get a new techno-toy.

My goodness…your body doesn’t sound like it’s being very cooperative!! This “maturing” is such an unfair journey!! I hope things work out for your regarding …your healthcare/days worked..etc. (I don’t understand ALL that’s going on exactly…but I trust you….)
