Bring me Two Bean Enchiladas!

One of the most fun trips our family took was out west. We took three. One to Montana to see my sister and brother-in-law. One to see the Lewis and Clark history. One to see New Mexico.

The second trip, the one to follow Lewis and Clark’s journey, was when the kids were at the perfect age for it. I believe Grace was 14, Ben, 11, and Deborah 8. They loved to sing; to listen to music on their CD players; and to read. We listened to the radio too.

Four phrases were epic on this trip. One was the song we listened to a bazillion times. Two Pine Coladas. It was about half-way through the trip that we realized Deborah was singing along every time it was on. Not knowing what a Pine Colada was, she was clearly singing, "Bring me two bean Enchiladas. I want one for each hand!" The second was from the new movie, Pocahontas. About half-way through the movie one of the Indians is killed and Pocahontas shouts out his name, "Cocoum NOOOO!!!!" All three kids thought this line was just irresistibly repeatable. They shouted it over and over until we had to make a rule against saying it. Another line came from a stop where the grass of the pond-side park was so covered with duck turds you could barely walk across it. The kids were told not to talk about duck turds, so the two older ones called Deborah "doctor" over and over, which got her steaming mad, because she knew what they meant by it. Of course, "doctor" became forbidden too. Finally, we passed a restaurant called The Blackeyed Pea. Still smarting from her embarrassment from the ducturds and bean enchiladas incidents Deborah was sure that the phrase was not a restaurant at all, but just a name the older two made up to torture her. She screamed so loud any time anyone said "Black Eyed Pea", that we had to make them stop saying that too.

The Two Bean Enchiladas song was really funny though.

LOL! Kids do say the darndest things.

Amazing how what is being sung is not what we hear.
