AWOL
Joe cracked me up today at coffee. He is the 79-year-old Hardee’s coffee buddy who I bought my late RX-7 from. He told me again about his near arrest by the FBI some 50 years ago. He was in the US Air Force for several months and stationed in Texas where he was learning how to fix jets and weapons systems on them during the Korean war. He had heard that he was going to be drafted into the Army so he volunteered to go into the Air Force.
Well, he was just minding his business there when he got a serious call on a call box to report the the big deal area of the base offices. His Sargent figured he was in big trouble. Once there he was ushered into a room with two very serious suited up FBI agents from the closest FBI office. They asked him who he was, and accused him of being AWOL from the army! That’s right, he draft board didn’t properly record that he had joined the Air Force and turned him in for not showing up for Army boot camp. The idiot FBI agents were investigating a soldier on a military base for desertion. Isn’t that the dumbest bureaucratic cock-up you have heard all day?
*laughs* that just made my day, imagining such a scenario! 😀

Those bureaucratic types only know how to follow orders, not think.

ryn: That’s because you don’t eat them by the pound. 🙂

Um, desertion is a federal offense. What would you say they should have done? Your side of politics already elected one of them president and it didn’t really work out…

This is hilarious. Mad Twin Films is such a pathetic loser that he has blocked my access to his OD, but he comes here and leave notes that are bizarrely but obviously designed only to show he has no sense of humor, no sense of irony, and well…..just no sense at all. Thanks MTF for another laugh to brighten my day.

You’re the only person I’ve ever heard say anything negative about Trex. It’s a composite of wood and vinyl (I think) and is designed NOT to fade and warp, etc. And it’s heavier than wood. It’s not like the hollow vinyl stuff that my neighbor put in. But even that has stood up pretty good. It’s been about 4 or 5 years since he put it in and it still looks good.
