My house smells so loverly! I decided to surprise the hubby with a nice ham dinner tonight. All I can smell is the ham!! The only thing that will trump that smell is the fresh yeast rolls that are just about done rising. I swear, I could eat homemade bread alone for a meal. Every day of the week. I ADORE bread. Adore it.
It always amuses me when people who cannot (or will not) cook try to correct me when I am discussing cooking. The other day my SIL, who once made baking powder biscuits instead of cornbread because she didn’t know there was a difference, tried to correct me when I was discussing purple potatoes. You see, my husband ALWAYS talks about how he used to eat this delicious roasted paprika chicken growing up in Germany. After years upon years of searching I found a recipe that I knew would be suitable, invested in a bottle of GOOD paprika, and whipped up the paprika roasted chicken with roasted earth potatoes. Earth potatoes include purple potatoes, which are literally purple from the inside out, and they have this wonderful deep, earthy flavor that is easily accented by sweet or spicy flavors. I ADORE them. Anyways, I was telling my MIL how I made this chicken with purple potatoes and I’d have to share the recipe. My SIL butts in to say "you mean RED potatoes. I mean, they look purple but they are red." Ummm- okay, dumbass. I informed her that I indeed was referring to purple potatoes- last I checked red potatoes were, well, RED on the exterior and purple potatoes were purple- all the way through. Her only response? "Oh." I wanted to bust up. I’m such a child!
I busted my hump (my lumps, my lovely lady lumps) today but I feel like I didn’t get much accomplished. I suppose the ginormous amount of laundry that is now available to M and I is a pretty good indication that something was done. Ha ha!!
It seems with age the less and less I can stand cleaning chemicals. At this point, I cannot use ANY bathroom cleaners except scrubbing bubbles (although I generally use baking soda and vinegar), lysol products, anything with ammonia, etc. I get these massive headaches and will start throwing up at the first whiff. Nuts!! I have always been a pine-sol fan and a bleach fan, but bleach is starting to affect me as well. Today I used bleach in my sinks, heavily diluted by water, and still managed to get chemical burns all over my dang hands! I’m just a sensitive pansy, I reckon. Oh well. I have started making my own detergents (laundry, fabric softener, dishwasher…not that I have a dishwasher anymore. BOO!)- it makes me proud to know I can be a gritty hippy and there isn’t much I cannot do on my own,
I am so hungry! The smell of this ham is making me salivate. If M doesn’t come home soon I will be forced to cook the rolls, steal a slice of ham, and sneak a ham and fresh roll sammich. Take that, M!!
Where was I again?
Cleaning.
Screw cleaning. I’m hungry! What are YOU having for dinner?
I was quite pleased at the sight of done laundry last night 🙂 yeah, screw cleaning! I bit the bullet and had Arby’s tonight for somewhere different. I don’t know why because I felt sick before I ever went there. Almost asked my teacher to take my test home but I got through it-mostly. I can hardly stand the smell of cleansers like I used to. I think you get older and full of costic stuff. one

I’ve had purple potatoes only once, and never forgot how great they tasted! Can you get them at Whole Foods? I’ve never noticed them there, but wasn’t looking for them either.
